Andrew Breitbart 1969-2012

This morning Andrew Breitbart, 43, conservative writer, commentator and publisher died.

According to reports, Breitbart was walking near his Brentwood home just past midnight and collapsed. Although Paramedics were called, they were unable to revive him.

Breitheart had tweeted just minutes earlier apologizing to one of his followers for calling him a “putz”.

The conservative world has been in shock today over his passing. Many had great things to say in remembrance of Breitbart.

“He was one of the most fearless people I even knew” said Jonah Goldberg of National Review Online. Tucker Carlson of the Daily Caller echoed Goldberg and said Breitbart “was completely fearless… he thrived on the brawling.” Terry Moran of ABC News said, “I’ll remember his enormous, brawling passion…” Rick Santorum added: “What a powerful force. What a huge loss.”

His own site,, is honoring him by including his conclusions to his book Righteous Indignation:

“I love my job. I love fighting for what I believe in. I love having fun while doing it. I love reporting stories that the Complex refuses to report. I love fighting back, I love finding allies, and—famously—I enjoy making enemies.

Three years ago, I was mostly a behind-the-scenes guy who linked to stuff on a very popular website. I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night.”

Breitbart was pushed to notoriety partly by the circulation of two videos. One edited video led to the firing of Shirley Sherrod, an Agriculture Department employee, because of an apparent racist remark. The second video gained national attention as he exposed how the community group ACORN was recorded helping actors posing as a pimp and prostitute, ultimately resulting in a loss of federal funding.

Indeed he will be missed greatly and not easily replaced. There was only one Andrew Breitbart. However, quite possibly his passion has stirred up this generation that there will be another 10 or 100 to take his place who will take up the banner of conservatism and seek to expose the left.

Rest in Peace Andrew.

Breitbart is survived by his wife and four children.
