If you were on the fence about whether or not Saddleback “pastor” Rick Warren is going apostasy, then here is the final bit of evidence. Last week Warren addressed the United States Senate Appropriations Subcommittee alongside open sodomite singer Elton John. The two held hands and even joked about kissing each other.
Warren was to speak about funding of global health initiatives, something our Constitution knows nothing of. Both men seemed to push for more help regarding AIDS research and help in other countries. You’ll recall that AIDS was first called GRIDS (Gay Related Immune Deficiency Syndrome) because it largely manifested itself in the sodomite community in the early 1980s. Later the name was changed to protect the guilty as the disease spread across genders.
“They’re not nearly as afraid of the Church as the American government is,” Warren told Congress. “I mean, we work with governments, literally, all around the world and they’re very friendly. They realize we’re not trying to do their work.”
“Everybody has a different role to play and the Church’s role is not government, and the government’s role is not church,” Warren explained. “But on health issues, and on education issues and on development issues, you can team tackle. As I said, I found it easier to work with governments overseas.”
Wow! Warren would have done well just to stop with the first sentence. Nowhere either in the Constitution or the Bible is government to be involved in education, health issues or development issues. The government is to protect the liberties of its citizens and issue just punishment upon evil doers (Rom. 13:1-5). That’s it!
The California megachurch star said, “In Africa, they say the pastor sleeps in the same blankets as the community,” Warren pointed out. “You know, when I keep going back to Rwanda because I’ve had 1,200 people in Rwanda.”
“When the genocide hit in 1994, every single NGO left the country … It was unsafe,” he added. “Who stayed? The Church … because the Church is the country. It is the country. And in most of the world, you can’t talk about community development without talking about the Church.”
Again, there is some obvious theological problems with what Warren is advancing, but it was what came next that really exposed that Warren is not a man of God.
Seated beside him was open sodomite British pop star Elton John. The two men were holding hands. Now, before anyone gets all bent out of shape, I realize that two men can hold hands and there be nothing between them, but friendship (think of your prayer circles or other events of solidarity). However, when a professed Christian pastor holds the hand of an open sodomite before the watching world there is a problem.
The two got along like they were a couple. How exactly does that work in light of the Biblical teaching, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed” (Amos 3:3)? Or what of Paul’s admonition:
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God;” -2 Cor. 6:14-16b
But it gets worse.
Warren declared to John that if the two men kissed, it would be “the kiss heard ’round the world.”
Again, for a man of God to engage an open sodomite in the manner Warren did is just as abominable as what Elton John engages in and endorses. Instead of confronting John with his sin, Warren seemed to play up to it in front of everyone.
As blogger Geoffrey Grider wrote, “Here was his perfect opportunity to lovingly and graciously tell not only Elton John, but all of Congress that without being born again they will die and go to … Hell. But instead, he holds hands with a gay man, and jokes about kissing him. It was a joke, right?”
I’m not sure if it was a joke or not. Could there be a “coming out” moment in Rick Warren’s future? Frankly, I confess that for a man to do such a thing make me wonder.
