Just ten days ago, I told you about the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms moving to block the book titled The Unarmed Truth: My Fight to Blow the Whistle and Expose Fast and Furious by Fast and Furious whistleblower John Dodson because it would “have a negative impact on morale.” Dodson’s attorneys at the ACLU sent ATF Deputy Director Thomas Brandon a letter, and immediately the ATF changed their story, claiming that Dodson could not publish and profit from the book as a working federal agent due to federal regulations, despite the fact that the ATF’s outside work denial letter never mentions such a regulation.

CNN is now reporting that the ATF is going to let Dodson publish the book, but not before making redactions in it. The ATF also says that Dodson cannot make money on the book.
A federal agent will be allowed to write a book with an insider’s account of Operation Fast and Furious, reversing an earlier government attempt to block publication for “morale” reasons. However, John Dodson, an agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, won’t be allowed to make money on the book.
A U.S. law enforcement official familiar with the matter says the Justice Department, ATF and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will review Dodson’s manuscript and, after making redactions to protect sensitive law enforcement information, will clear it for publication. However, federal employee guidelines prohibit Dodson and other active agents from making a profit from their work in law enforcement, the official said.
Yeah, the federal government says all kinds of things that are simply untrue.
Granted, if there was something of an actual national security issue, one could understand a redaction. However, in the current administration, pretty much everything they are engaged in is a national security issue, literally. Exposing their corruption will probably fall under such a claim.
We already know where heavily redacted documents got Attorney General Eric Holder: Contempt of Congress. The Department of Justice’s documents that were sent to the House Oversight Committee were so heavily redacted that many of the pages were simply black, like the one seen in the photo below in the hand of Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA).
Furthermore, I don’t see the problem in Mr. Dodson making money from his work.
The family of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, who was murdered with a weapons from the Obama administration’s Fast and Furious operation, wants the book published.
In a statement from Ralph Terry, President of the Brian Terry Foundation, on behalf of the family, he wrote, “The family of slain U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry stands behind ATF whistleblower John Dodson and supports his attempts to publish his manuscript pertaining to the flawed gun trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious. Recently, ATF officials told Dodson that he was prohibited from releasing his memoir because it would have a negative impact on morale in the Phoenix office of the ATF and would have a detrimental effect on ATF’s relationships with the DEA and the FBI. Do we really need to remind ATF leadership that the men that killed Brian Terry were carrying weapons supplied to them by ATF during Operation Fast and Furious, an investigation that both President Obama and Attorney General Holder have publicly called ill-conceived? This latest incident reignites concerns that ATF leadership is again seeking to avoid responsibility for the deadly errors made in allowing the flawed gun walking tactics.”
“This should not be an issue of what some in ATF call ‘an opportunity for Dodson to get rich’ rather it should be about accountability and transparency,” he added. “ATF leadership has yet another opportunity to close an ugly chapter in its history by letting John Dodson publish his memoirs and tell the story of Operation Fast and Furious with the goal of never repeating the same mistakes. The Terry family and the American public deserve to hear what Dodson has to say. They also need to know that ATF has learned from its mistakes.”
“The Terry family urges new ATF Director Todd B. Jones to reconsider his agency’s position and allow Dodson to publish his manuscript. It’s important that Director Jones shows that ATF has nothing to hide in the aftermath of Operation Fast and Furious, and that his agency is not involved in any kind of retaliation against Special Agent Dodson for his whistleblower actions which ultimately exposed and stopped the tactics of gun walking. Many Americans believe that ATF and DOJ have hidden certain aspects of the ill-conceived gun trafficking investigation known as Operation Fast and Furious that resulted in the death of Brian Terry; allowing the publication of John Dodson’s manuscript would go a long way in showing that ATF has nothing to hide.”
I agree, they have hidden these things, and it is time the light came to bear on one of the bloodiest scandals in the Obama administration in which no one has really been held accountable for over three years.
