I accept the fact that being involved in American politics at any level is a form of certifiable insanity. We The People have generally become calloused and have accepted the prevailing logic that the vast majority of the candidates are black holes of ideas or reasons as to why they should be elected and therefore must resort to attack ads as their entire inventory of tools to get elected.
I find this year’s weapon of choice most annoying. More and more often I am seeing gifted audio / video editing as the weapon of choice. That type of attack ad is constructed around a “sound bite” in which a few words are captured and are used completely out of context to paint a false picture as was done to Cliven Bundy when the mass media – including Fox News Channel – took about thirteen seconds out of a ten or fifteen minute interview to paint a false picture of Cliven Bundy.
Here in Nevada, the race for Lt. Governor is a prime example. I don’t even know the name of the candidate that is using this tactic but I do know that I am going to vote for the person against whom this form of attack is being directed. Blatant dishonesty in the primary race absolutely guarantees greater dishonesty in office.
And is always the case here in lovely Las Vegas, we have the perpetual blood bath between the conservative factions while the Democrats march confidently towards our capitals.
And that is the source of my “Head Banger #1.“
I have long preached the gospel of UNITY, but that will never happen here in our lovely valley; the open hostility and deep seeded bitterness that exists between some of the various factions makes the legendary Hatfield / McCoy feud seem like the Queen’s Sunday tea party. Personally, I tend to lean towards those who truly believe that one of the smaller local so called grass roots organizations is truly a Democratic Party plant.
But what really rattles the brain cells is the term “Non-Partisan Tea Party event.” Rattle, rattle, rattle.
I am familiar with the concept of political “double-speak” but this is ridiculous. I have been called many things but “non-partisan” stands right there next to the term “Politically Correct” on my “Just Ain’t Never Happened” list.
Perhaps because I AM Tea Party; and I am not apologetic about it.
The swirl in this toilet politic is confusing enough. It would help my sanity if so called Tea Party organizations would stop apologizing for what we are supposed to stand for and that is what the term “Non-Partisan Tea Party” anything sounds like to me; an apology.
I thoroughly enjoy Tea Party sponsored open invitation and discussion events and believe it to be a necessary and healthy thing to do, but I cannot wrap my head around “Non-Partisan Tea Party Events”; the ultimate oxymoron.
We The People need to unite, stand proud, and be loud – not worry ourselves over the possibility that our very name might offend someone. Unless of course you live in Las Vegas.
That cowering behavior has never been in my personal repertoire of skills and does the entire concept of a “Tea Party” a great disservice.
One man’s opinion.
