A couple of very interesting moments occurred today when Hillary Clinton appeared before the Benghazi committee. Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) opened things up with an epic rant, excoriating anyone and everyone who has ever suggested the Benghazi hearings were about Hillary Clinton.
“Madame Secretary, I understand some people — frankly in both parties — have suggested this investigation is about you. Let me assure you it is not. And let me assure you why it is not. This work is about something much more important than any single person. It is about four U.S. government workers, including our Ambassador, murdered by terrorists on foreign soil. It is about what happened before, during, and after the attacks that killed these four men.
It is about what this country owes those who risk their lives to serve it. It is about the fundamental obligation of our government to tell the truth — always — to the American people. Not a single member of this Committee signed up for an investigation into you or your email system. We signed up because we wanted to honor the service and sacrifice of four people sent to a foreign land to represent us – who were killed – and do everything we can to prevent it from happening to others.”

However, as spectacular as Rep. Gowdy’s opening statement was, there was a bombshell that came shortly afterward when Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked Clinton if she knew all along that the attack on the embassy was a terrorist attack and not a random uprising. In an email that the American people had no idea existed until it was unveiled, Clinton is seen telling the Egyptian President (less than 24 hours after the attack) that the Libyan embassy was attacked by Ansar al Sharia and that it had nothing to do with a video!
Rep. Jordan revealed three new communications from Clinton that show the State Department knew within a few hours what had transpired in Benghazi, but then inexplicably they told the American people a completely bold faced lie. Clinton told the Presidents of Libya and Egypt, as well as her own family, that Benghazi had been attacked by Al Qaeda linked terrorists and that the attack had nothing to do with a YouTube video or a spontaneous protest.
“You’re looking at an email you sent to your family. Here’s what you said. At 11 o’clock that night, approximately one hour after you told the American people it was a video, you say to your family, ‘Two officers were killed today in Benghazi by an al-Qaeda-like group.’ You tell the American people one thing, you tell your family an entirely different story.
“Also, on the night of the attack, you had a call with the president of Libya. Here’s what you said to him: ‘Ansar al Sharia’s claiming responsibility….And finally, most significantly, the next day, within 24 hours, you had a conversation with the Egyptian prime minister. You told him this: ‘We know the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film. It was a planned attack, not a protest.’
“Let me read that one more time,” Jordan said: “‘We know’ — not we think, not it might be — ‘we know the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film. It was a planned attack, not a protest.’
“State Department experts knew the truth; you knew the truth,” Jordan said. “That’s not what the American people got. And again, the American people want to know why. Why didn’t you tell the American people exactly what you told the Egyptian prime minister?”
Clinton’s response is as weak now as it was then, “Well, I think if you look at the statement that I made, I clearly said it was an attack, and I also said that there were some who tried to justify it on the basis of the video…”
Rep. Jordan went on to note that based on the conversation taking place in the State Department, Clinton’s people were far more interested in the politics of Benghazi than they were in the terrorist attack itself. Jordan then offers the only plausible reason for the State Department to have lied about Benghazi in the days following the attack… POLITICS. Anyone still defending Clinton or the Obama administration over the Benghazi debacle is obviously a partisan hack with no interest in being intellectually honest. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and their cronies in the administration demonstrably and purposefully lied to the American people in order to gain a few political points.
It’s more than disturbing; it’s criminal, and it will be a miscarriage of justice if there is no legal fallout from this hearing.
