Beto confronted after AR-15 claim; 'Hell no you're not'

Beto O’Rourke has been trying anything and everything in order to remain relevant in the convoluted and crowded race for the presidency.

The former Texas state legislator stormed onto the national political scene in 2018 as a challenger to Senator Ted Cruz, ultimately failing in that endeavor but exploiting his sudden fame to announce a bid for the presidency.

In the exorbitant 2020 field, Beto has been a bit of a bust, failing to maintain anything resembling a double digit polling percentage nationally – a reality that has forced the young Texan to continually reinvent himself on the campaign trail.  In this latest iteration, Beto has been gritty and angry, even going so far as to tell the nation “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15” when asked about the possibility of gun confiscation.

That quip hasn’t sat well with many Americans, however, including one woman who explained her annoyance right to O’Rourke’s face.

A Colorado woman confronted Democratic presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke Thursday on his controversial proposal to go after high-powered weapons through a mandatory buyback program.

“I am here to say: Hell, no, you’re not,” Lauren Boebert told O’Rourke during a town hall event in Aurora, Colo., passionately defending her rights under the Second Amendment.

“I have four children, I am 5-foot-0, 100 pounds, I cannot really defend myself with a fist. … I want to know how you’re going to legislate that because a criminal breaks the law, so all you’re going to do is restrict law-abiding citizens, like myself.”

Beto’s marketing team had taken the aforementioned soundbite to the bank, hocking t-shirts emblazoned with the phrase just hours after the candidate’s unconstitutional claim was made during the latest democratic debate.
