Anti-Surveillance Protesters Set to Descend on Washington, DC

While the truckers and other concerned Americans are planning to descend on Washington in mid-October, anti-surveillance advocates are planning their own protest of Washington scheduled for one month from now.

According to the Daily Caller:

On Saturday, October 26, a coalition of more than 100 public advocacy organizations and companies will converge on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC to protest the U.S. Government’s counter-terrorism surveillance apparatus that was revealed by former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.

The coalition, Stop Watching Us, also plans to present members of Congress with a petition containing 570,000 signatures protesting the government’s mass surveillance. Various members of the coalition include: Restore the Fourth, the American Civil Liberties Union, Fight for the Future, and Free Press.

The day before the rally, activists plan to lobby members of Congress about the issue as well.

Stop Watching Us is also holding a crowdfunding campaign in order to financially support activists hoping to attend the rally.

While Stop Watching Us is hoping to attract thousands of people to Washington, DC for the event, activists recognize the number of people pushing for surveillance reform will need to be higher.

“It’s going to take millions of people – including Congress – to hold the NSA accountable and to change the laws that have enable these spying programs in the first place,” said Josh Levy, internet campaign director of Free Press.

As anyone can see, many Americans are tired of the unconstitutional functioning of our government and the blatant disregard for God-given rights by the Congress, the alphabet agencies and the current occupant of the oval office. Organizations and concerned individuals are preparing to confront the government on behalf of a nation regarding the violations of the Fourth Amendment by the Washington crew.

Here is another opportunity, America. The time to get off your duff is now, and participate in any way you can to inform the federal government they are to abide by the law of the land, the US Constitution.

Not long ago, I had a conversation with my Dad about past events in history that contributed to the state of this country. I asked him how could anyone not see what was happening in the government that was leading to a socialist, Marxist, Communist change in this country. His response was that it was not that Americans didn’t see it; it was that Americans remained silent thinking the next change in presidents or Congressional representatives would fix it. He said many generations were to blame for their silence and then said, “I have to share in that responsibility because I didn’t stand up either. But, I can and will stand up now. I have learned from my mistake.”

Americans have made many mistakes; it’s human. After all, none of us are perfect. The important thing is to learn from our mistakes and not make the same ones twice. We can make a difference.

Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “We have nothing to fear but fear itself.” This is true. Fear can be so great that it paralyzes us into inaction. This is what is to be feared – inaction. Courage is not the absence of fear, but the realization that something is more important. What could be more important that telling our government, “You will not eradicate our God-given rights and will return to abiding by the limitations established by the Constitution.” The government is our creature, not the other way around.

As Neil Armstrong once said, “One small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.” These seemingly small steps can result in one giant leap.

So, America, you can sit and whine, cry, moan and complain, or you can actually put your money where your mouth is and do something. Which do you think is more productive? As my Dad is fond of saying, “Spit in one hand and wish in the other, then tell me which one fills up the fastest.”
