Colorado Takes Aim to Recall Anti-gun Senator Evie Hudak

I must tell you that I have some respect for a lot of my friends out in Colorado. You guys just are not going to take it sitting down or go quietly into the night…..I like that! Following booting two state Senators, John Morse and Angela Giron, Coloradans take aim to recall state Senator Evie Hudak.

Colorado State Senator Evie Hudak Signatures have already begun to be collected against Hudak and she is a favorite target of gun owners due to her liberal voting record.

According to Colorado election law, a recall election will be prompted once there is a collection of 18,900 signatures from residents of Hudak’s district, or 25% of the total votes cast in the last election. The proponents have 60 days to collect valid signatures to force the election. Currently, the Democrats hold a one seat majority following Morse and Giron’s removal.

This is the second effort at recalling Hudak this year; the successful September recalls of Democrats John Morse and Angela Giron were the result of an original campaign that targeted them as well as Hudak and state Representative Mike McLachlan.

The recall petition cites strict new gun restrictions passed by the Colorado legislature as a reason for recalling Hudak. “She has infringed upon our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. She has voted to make all citizens less safe and to drive hundreds of jobs from Colorado,” the petition reads.

Hudak told the Denver Post, “A small group is seeking to undo the will of voters, who re-elected me to the Senate last November. Unable to defeat me then, they are now attempting a political power grab using a low-voter-turnout, no-mail-ballot recall election strategy.”

Evie Hudak won senate elections in 2008 and 2012 by slim margins. In 2008, she won against Republican Libby Szabo with 51% of the vote. In 2012, she won with only 47% of the vote, edging out Republican challenger Lang Sias by 0.7%. Sias’ defeats was blamed on Libertarian Lloyd A. Sweeny, who took 7% of the vote. The assumption is that those votes would have gone to Sias…..oh the assumptions.

Hudak has a bad habit of making stupid comments. The Denver Post reported back in March of this year:

You might think a twice-elected state senator would have the good sense to treat a rape victim with respect during testimony at the state Capitol.

That’s not what happened Monday during a hearing on a bill that would ban concealed weapons on college campuses, however.

State Sen. Evie Hudak, D-Westminster, seemed bent on contradicting Amanda Collins, a Nevada woman who testified that she felt she could have defended herself against her attacker if she had been carrying her weapon.

Hudak responded: “I just want to say that actually, statistics are not on your side even if you had had a gun.”

The Post not only questioned any sensitivity she had towards the rape victim Amanda Collins, but questioned her statistics and contradicted them with a study from the Violence Policy Center.

Hudak also voted in favor of a bill that would ban concealed-carry weapons on college campuses, with the vote passing on party lines 3-2.

I hope the good people of Colorado get all the signatures necessary and send Evie Hudak packing.
