I told you earlier this week that Washington D.C. Police had finished their investigation into MSNBC Meet the Press host David Gregory’s blatant breaking of the law by waving around a high-capacity magazine on national television in front of National Rifle Association vice president Wayne LaPierre. Well it looks like the Attorney General’s office will neither arrest him nor prosecute him.

The D.C. law is clear:

“No person in the District shall possess, sell, or transfer any large capacity ammunition feeding device regardless of whether the device is attached to a firearm. A ‘large capacity ammunition feeding device’ means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition.”

D.C. Attorney General Irv Nathan announced in a letter on Friday afternoon:

Having carefully reviewed all of the facts and circumstances of this matter, as it does in every case involving firearms-related offenses or any other potential violation of D.C. law within our criminal jurisdiction, OAG has determined to exercise its prosecutorial discretion to decline to bring criminal charges against Mr. Gregory, who has no criminal record, or any other NBC employee based on the events associated with the December 23, 2012 broadcast.

Here’s the complete letter from the AG.

Clearly there is a double standard in Washington when a veteran who honorably served this country is treated as a common criminal and jailed for forgetting loose ammunition in his backpack, not even knowing it was against the law in Washington, D.C. and letting a nationally known figure like Gregory get off scot free without so much as a slap on the hand. This should cause Americans to be quite literally “up in arms.”
