Home » DC Police Chief Wants Citizens to “Take Out” Active Shooters – Continues to Enforce Strict Gun Control
One wonders of DC Police Chief Cathy Lanier is beginning to wake up to reality. During an interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, Lanier said that she believes that people who find themselves in an active shooter situation, should do whatever they can to attempt to restrain or even kill the shooter.
“Your options are run, hide or fight,” Lanier said. “If you’re in a position to try and take the gunman down, to take the gunman out, it’s the best option for saving lives before police get there.”
While this is an about face to what police normally tell you, Lanier believe that has all changed with the rise in deadly shootings.

“I don’t think you’re going to stop the shootings. I think a person who’s committed to carrying out an act of violence like this is going to carry that act out. How successful they are and how many people they kill, we can try to intervene on,” she said.
That’s right, you aren’t, but neither are you going to prevent people who are hell bent on obtaining a gun to commit a crime either, but DC and Lanier continue to push their unconstitutional gun control, which is in clear violation of the Second Amendment.
Five to seven minutes is the normal response time of even America’s best police departments. By that time, if you have an active shooter, a lot of damage can be done and lives lost.
It was Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke who spoke out a couple of years ago and encouraged people to arm themselves. “You have a duty to protect yourself and your family,” Clarke told the people of his county.
So, why the turn around by Lanier? Possibly it is due to the fact that the Islamic State has set its sights on the Capitol.
“We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing, like France’s and by God, as we struck France in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington,” a man identifying himself as “Al Ghareeb the Algerian” said in the video.
“I say to the European countries that we are coming, coming with booby traps and explosives, coming with explosive belts and silencers and you will be unable to stop us because today we are much stronger than before,” he added.
Well, booby traps and explosives are a little different scenario than an active shooter for sure.
DC would do well to allow Federal Judge Frederick Sculli’s ruling in Palmer v. District of Columbia to stand, which declared the city’s ban on carrying handguns outside their homes unconstitutional. However, federal attorney and District officials just don’t want to let go of their control of the people and continue to challenge the ruling. Furthermore, they should be deregulating the purchase of firearms if they want to see crime go down and are serious about people arming themselves against criminals. Instead of making things more difficult for law-abiding people, why not give them unhindered access to exercising their rights. They’ll not only learn responsibility for protecting their own lives, but the lives of friends, family, neighbors and strangers.
Lanier, in her confusion, blurted out the truth about gun control laws in August, when she indicated they do absolutely nothing to stop criminals from obtaining guns or high capacity magazines. Her statement was in response to a thirty percent increase in murders over the same number from last year if the trend continues, it will lead to a six-year high for the city.
All of that is brought to you by bureaucrats with armed body guards who know better than the American people and violate the Constitution.
So, if Lanier is really serious about what she is suggesting, then she should be calling for repeal of DC’s gun laws and push for just punishments for those who commit violent crimes.
