Ugh. Democrats in Congress are pushing hard to pass a bill that would give Obamacare healthcare coverage to illegal immigrants. Yep, they want to force Americans to pay for healthcare coverage for people who break into our country illegally. As if we weren’t already providing enough incentive for illegals to sneak in, offering free healthcare would simply instigate a whole new flood of immigration from all over Latin America.
Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) introduced the bill to Congress in the hopes of changing current law, which explicitly forbids illegals from being insured through Obamacare. (Though it does not forbid them from being insured – just from receiving benefits under Obamacare.) Gutierrez hopes to changed that:
“It gives them access to the healthcare exchanges in Obamacare under the ordinary rules of residency in the states in which they live and makes them eligible for subsidies if and when they file taxes — just like the rest of us,” Gutierrez said when introducing his bill in Congress.
Thankfully, the fact that Republicans hold strong majorities in both the House and the Senate should mean that this bill has no chance of becoming law anytime soon, but it does give us insight into the liberal battlefield over illegal immigration.
What I find ironic with the entire effort is that over the last several months, the establishment of both parties has been stumped about how it is that Donald Trump can be so popular… but then they do something like this. Hey Establishment! Wake up! This is why Donald Trump is still so very popular! America doesn’t like illegal immigration, so stop creating and supporting policies that encourage illegal immigration!
Also, while we can be fairly sure that this bill won’t pass anytime soon, we really can’t be sure because the GOP establishment has been infatuated with helping Democrats pass immigration reform for the last couple of years. Politicians like Paul Ryan (R-WI), John Boehner (R-OH), John McCain (R-AZ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) are hell-bent on passing immigration reform (any kind of reform) that they might willingly allow something like this to happen if it meant getting Democrats on board with their next plan. It’s truly maddening.
This is where the Democrat Party is leading the GOP (and the rest of us), folks. Prepare to keep hearing about bills like this over the next few months and years, and unless we elect more conservatives… we may soon see some of these terrible “reforms” come to pass.
