Listen, Democrat leader and head of the Democrat National Committee (DNC) Debbie Wasserman Schultz won’t ever be confused with a Mensa candidate… but one should expect her to be reasonably intelligent, shouldn’t one?
I mean, the DNC chose to make her their leader; they had to see something that we didn’t.
However, none of her talents or abilities (if they truly exist) were on display this past week when she visited with MSNBC host Chris Matthews (himself a dyed in the wool Democrat).
What should have been a very easy interview for Wasserman Schultz turned into a very awkward few minutes when two liberals couldn’t explain the difference between a socialist and a democrat?
Chris Matthews: “What is the difference between a Democrat and a socialist?”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz: …
Chris Matthews: “I used to think there is a big difference. What do you think it is? A Democrat like Hillary and a socialist like Bernie Sanders.”
Debbie Wasserman Schultz: “… The more important question is what is the difference between being a Democrat and being a Republican.”
Chris Matthews: “What’s the big difference between a Democrat and a socialist? You’re chairman of the democratic party. Tell me the difference between you and a socialist.”
To which Wasserman Schultz basically replied, “Let’s talk about the difference between a Democrat and Republican.”
When asked what is the difference between a socialist and a Democrat, Ed Morrissey at Hot Air replies:
Answer: Not much at all, and Debbie Wasserman Schultz knows it…. Matthews sounds downright plaintive when he says, “I used to think there was a big difference” between Democrats and Socialists. Perhaps it’s just nostalgia, because the difference has been narrowing rapidly over the past generation, and has all but disappeared in the past six years. Its disappearance has been so profound that even the DNC chair can’t pick up on the warning Matthews attempted to sound in this exchange, and instead brags about how much distance the Democrats have put from Republicans in their radical shift to the Left. For once, though … she’s entirely correct.
UPDATE:
Wasserman Schultz got a second chance to explain the difference on Sunday, when NBC’s Chuck Todd asked her to try again… and she still couldn’t explain the difference between a Democrat and a socialist!
Funny Stuff.
“It’s always fun to be interviewed by Chris Matthews, and I know that he enjoys that banter. The important distinction that I think we’re going to be discussing is the difference between Democrats and Republicans.”
Yep. She still can’t do it.
