Moral clarity is the ability to see things as they really are. This type of clarity is only possible when one believes what is true.
America lost her way when she chose the lies of moral relativism over the moral clarity of truth.
To dispose of truth in favor of moral relativism makes a moving target of the standard by which society must agree to live.
If we cannot call something “evil,” how can we then call anything else “good”? We can’t have it both ways.
Is it not evil to be so lazy we neglect searching for the truth? Isn’t it evil to tolerate a lie? Isn’t it immoral to allow others to think for us? Do we reject truth when it makes us feel “uncomfortable”?
How does one know the truth? Where does truth come from?
It certainly does not come from the news or social media, from public schools or universities, or from our government.
A Williams College student group hosts a lecture series called “Uncomfortable Learning.” For one of the talks, the group invited an accomplished, qualified and well-known guest speaker. The event was cancelled just days before because the group learned the expert’s viewpoint might make students feel “uncomfortable.”
Wasn’t that the point of the lecture series in the first place? Are we teaching students to operate solely on feeling and not fact?
At Washington State University, a professor told her students in the “Women and Popular Culture” class they would “risk failure for the semester” if they used the terms “male” or “female” because she considered them gross generalizations, derogatory and oppressive language.
Suddenly, the words referring to gender, which have been accepted for thousands of years, have become offensive? Did Webster change the dictionary and forget to tell the rest of the English-speaking world?
In an Illinois school, a transgender male, who feels he is a female, demanded full access to the female locker room. When the school offered separate facilities or privacy screens instead, the student claimed that would make him feel “different” from the other females.
Everyone must be forced to accept his way of thinking; never mind the safety, dignity, and privacy concerns of the school’s entire population…or the fact that he was born male.
What happens when his “feelings” change? Is the rest of the world expected to suddenly change policy with his whim?
When addressing the moving target of relativism, Pope Benedict XVI made the statement, “We are building a dictatorship of relativism that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists of one’s own ego and desires.”
Natural law demands that we must eventually concede to truth, regardless of our feelings or opinion. Failing to embrace the truth insures that the situation will only get worse until we comply or self-destruct.
Former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher once visited a British psychiatric hospital. One of the patients asked her name. Mrs. Thatcher replied, “I am Margaret Thatcher, the Prime Minister of Great Britain.” The patient drew in close and whispered, “It’s okay, dear, I used to think I was too when I first came here. Now I’m cured.”
Why couldn’t the woman just go through life believing she was Margaret Thatcher? Because truth will not be violated without consequence. No matter how much she wanted to be Margaret Thatcher, it was not possible. In order to be cured and lead a healthy life, she had to accept the truth and discover who she really was.
When we as a nation will not accept the truth, we are sick and in desperate need of help. While in our twisted state, we have compounded the problem by making laws to justify our sickness.
Have we sentenced ourselves to live in an insane asylum of our own making?
America was founded on this cornerstone of natural law: “We hold these truths to be self evident…” The founder’s prescribed treatment for our delusions is to seek and accept that standard of truth once again.
