If you’re a conservative like me and have been for any length of time, then you are probably getting worn out from having to defend yourself from the many disgusting canards thrown at you by the left. The ad hominem attacks that vilify us as racists, homophobes, bigots, small minded, uninformed, anti-science, anti-woman, anti-elderly… it all just gets so tiring.
It does offer some condolence to realize that the only reason that liberals must resort to these cheap and scurrilous attacks is because they cannot argue their ideas on merit or from fact. But it’s little relief from the daily onslaught of name-calling and vitriol.
Well, my friends, we aren’t the only ones getting tired of it. Dr. Alveda King is the niece of the famous and wonderful civil rights icon, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and she is ready to fight for those of us who feel trodden under by the left’s almost constant use of race baiting. In an article written for Priests for Life, Dr. King argues that “liberal race baiting is tired, sagging and outdated.” Strong words, indeed.
My grandfather, Dr. Martin Luther King, Sr. often quoted his mentor Dr. Benjamin E. Mays…
Dr. Mays would say: “No one can ride your back unless it is bent.” Granddaddy always taught us to “stand up straight and walk tall because God is on our side.”
When I hear Mrs. Senator Hillary Clinton or Mrs. Michelle Obama, or Al Sharpton, or other leading speakers stir up memories of racial unrest and oppression, even when they are pointing out the obvious current racial overtones and undertones that Blacks in America are still facing, I don’t hear hope. They don’t offer solutions, only more anger, pain and despair.
As a survivor of the 20th Century Race Wars, my back remains unbent, and I move forward for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all who were created equal in God’s eyes.
Dr. King goes on to discuss why the rhetoric of the left today is so tiresome, and that what black America really wants to hear about are “kitchen table issues.” Just like any other American, the black community wants to know how they will feed their families, educate their children, improve their quality of life and get their piece of the American Dream. Racially inflammatory rhetoric does no one any good, and it’s only used to incite division and stoke fear.
America’s black community is desperate for opportunity — and the Democrat Party isn’t offering any. After decades of subservience to one party, today’s inner city black community finds themselves in the worst place academically, economically and socially that they’ve been since the Civil Rights movement. However, there is hope. Conservatives desire that everyone find academic, economic and social freedom. We want everyone to share in the same opportunities, and we want everyone to get their chance at living the American Dream. But for that to happen the black community must join us in fighting to rid our nation of the welfare state and of the leviathan of regulations that hold our economy back.
Together, we can offer opportunity to everyone, not just the politically connected upper class, as liberals seem so intent on doing. If you want real change, if you want real economic opportunity, if you want a chance at grabbing a piece of the American dream, then join with conservatives in changing our world.
