Get Ready for More Ferguson Outrage

All of a sudden, it’s winter. It’s like this weather came out of nowhere. Here in southern New Hampshire, they’re predicting a couple inches of snow when, just a few days ago, it was in the mid to upper 60s.

Maybe it’s the “Polar Vortex,” maybe it’s “Climate Weirdness,” or maybe it’s just the onset of winter (although not technically) in New England.

But it’s not just us. The West and Midwest have been hammered already. Some cities and states have issued severe storm warnings and are even asking citizens to stock up and be prepared to ride it out.

One city in Missouri has even issued a notice to its citizens, listing supplies each family should have on hand to “weather” the storm.

Frankly, that’s a great idea. The notice says that “… it is important that we all plan ahead in the event that conditions warrant each of us to stay at or very close to our homes for several days. Please make sure your home and family are prepared for a period of disruption…”

The notice continues:

“Please consider the following suggestions:

Make sure you have plenty of bottled water (a gallon per person per day), and non-perishable, easy-to-access food in case you cannot get to a local store for a few days.

Be sure you have an adequate supply of prescription and other medicines to last for several days.

Keep your vehicle gas tanks full.

Keep cell phones fully charged and operable. Make sure both home and car phone chargers are readily accessible.

Make two lists of emergency information – physician contact names and numbers, etc. Keep one in the house and one in your car.

Develop a contact strategy for your family and loved ones to assure that you know where everyone is and that all are safe and able to function.

Parents, prepare a contingency plan for picking up your children from school.”

Okay, that’s not bad. They seem to have all the basics covered, and then some. Is there anything else?

Well, the city notice ends with the following: “If you use public transportation, there may be some delays. If you are traveling, the airport will be protected by the National Guard. All bags will be checked and cars will not be able to remain at drop off.”

Wait… What?! What kind of storm are they expecting? Why… the human kind. You see, this is not a pre-storm warning. It’s a pre-grand jury verdict warning. This notice was issued by the city of Berkeley, which is a stone’s throw from Ferguson Missouri.

The grand jury is expected, any day now, to decide whether or not to bring criminal charges against police officer Darren Wilson for shooting the gentle thug – I mean giant, and Ferguson, as well as surrounding towns are preparing for the worst. The worst being that no charges will be filed against Wilson and the hoodlums will take to the streets and act like well… hoodlums.

What’s the old saying? Hope for the best but prepare for the worst. The irony is that the weather, which is expected to be miserably cold, may prevent the hoodlums from coming out.

Maybe the dreaded Polar Vortex will actually save the day in Ferguson, as well as Berkeley.
