There’s lots of good news for the middle of your weekend. In today’s good news Congressman Michael Burgess stands his ground when confronted by an atheist over “atheist chaplains” (oxy moron), a six year old girl gets a new outlook on life following a heart transplant, Tim Scott calls out Harry Reid for playing the race card, Rand Paul finds a drone he likes, plus much more!

  1. Though an apartment complex told residents that they had to get rid of their guns, the County Housing Partnership threw out the complex’s policy stating that it infringed on individual rights.
  2. You’d think the question of adding “atheist chaplains” to the military was put to rest by the House of Representatives, which voted against the controversial proposal several few weeks ago, but the secular humanist lobby is continuing to battle. This time an atheist college student, Daniel Moran, took to the microphone at a town hall meeting Thursday and asked U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) why he twice voted against the measure. GOP Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) Tells Atheist College Student Why He Voted Against Atheist Military Chaplains. Instead of shrinking from the student’s pointed question, Burgess had this to say: “Yeah, I thought that was a dumb idea. I’ll do it again.” Way to go Rep. Burgess!
  3. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) calls out Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (R-NV) for using skin color to say that is why Republicans oppose Barack Obama.
  4. The honors and accolades have streamed in over the decades as Joe Segal built a business empire that includes starting Fields department stores, acquiring Zellers and becoming the largest single shareholder of the Hudson’s Bay Company. But the billionaire would rather talk about the plight of the mentally ill than himself. “Twenty-five percent of the population walking the streets around the world have a mental health problem of one type or another. There is a stigma. When you have cancer or a heart problem, there is lots of support. When you have mental health problems, you walk alone.” Segal learned that mental health was chronically underfunded and helped with millions of dollars.
  5. Wisconsin Man Builds His Dream, a Planetarium in His Backyard.
  6. Six-year-old Muskaan Grewal, a recent heart transplant recipient and the youngest person in the world to receive a heart pump, couldn’t wait to get home to Surrey on Saturday to see the rest of her family. As she waited with her dad for her bags to arrive on the conveyor belt at Vancouver airport, she hopped up and down in excitement. A year ago, this bubbly little girl couldn’t even walk a few steps without becoming exhausted.
  7. A user of the online website, Reddit, posted a photo of a delightful note that he said came from a stranger at the airport in Tampa, Florida. The Redditor said he was trying to pay for his baggage fee when his credit card was denied. He said he then “Stepped out of line to check my balance, and when I came back this was waiting for me.” Someone had paid the fee for him leaving a nice note: Hey, I heard them say your card was declined. I know how that feels. Your bag fee’s on me. Just pay it forward the next time you get a chance. – Have a safe flight 🙂
  8. Nashville’s flash flooding on Thursday morning ended in the heroic rescue of several people, including the Marlin family and their 5-week-old daughter, WKRN reports. WKRN, Nashville News, Nashville Weather and Sports
  9. It’s not uncommon for Goodwill to receive items that weren’t intended for the donation mile, but it’s not often that they find $10,000 — in cash. Goodwill employee Lakeisha Williams was sorting through donations at the Stockton, Calif., collection spot when she found an envelope full of $100 bills — a total of $10,500 — according to ABC affiliate KXTV. But instead of pocketing the cash, she turned the full sum in to her manager. Way to go Lakeisha!
  10. Rand Paul has found a drone that he does like. I think it’s acceptable.

Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Thou wilt prolong the king’s life: and his years as many generations. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.

–Psalm 61
