Harry Reid: The Border is Secure

Newsflash America! Senator Harry Reid, Democrat from Nevada and Senate Majority Leader, issued a statement after the Democrat’s weekly policy lunch declaring the southern border is secure.

As reported by the Hill, Reid stated:

“The border is secure. Martin Heinrich [Senate Democrat from New Mexico] talked to the caucus today. He’s a border state senator. He said he can say without any equivocation the border is secure.”

Senile there much, Harry, or do you perpetuate lies for sport?

It should surprise no one who has been following this invasion along our southern border that these political carp continue to spread the fallacy that it is only “children” crossing the border, when numerous news reports and insider tips have indicated otherwise. The Washington charlatans continue to press the House to provide excess funding of $3.7 billion of US taxpayer dollars to “process” these illegal alien invaders with Jeh Johnson, Secretary of Homeland Security, whining that his department will “run out of money by mid-August.” Reports indicate that approximately 90,000 illegal invaders are set to enter our country by the end of September; children that Johnson indicate are “apprehended.” One can hardly call turning oneself over to authorities as “apprehended.”

Reid downplayed a need for Congress to change law that would expedite deportation of minors and has dismissed a bipartisan proposal from Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) and Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-TX) calling it “too broad” and stating, “I won’t support it.” Still, Reid indicates the members of the Senate will hear a briefing from the administration on the “immigration crisis” on the Texas border.

Yes, that is correct. While Reid staunchly maintains, based on the report of another Democratic crony, the border is secure, he describes the briefing to the Senate as a report on the “immigration crisis.” If the border is secure, why would there be a “crisis?”

The Cornyn-Cuellar legislation would treat those minor illegal invaders coming from Central America the same as those from Mexico. In summary, the Cornyn-Cuellar legislation would amend the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008. Under the new bill, unaccompanied minors would be allowed to make a claim for remaining legally in the US before an immigration judge within seven days of the HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) screening. In the meantime, the department would be responsible for sheltering minors awaiting hearings. An immigration judge would hear the case within 72 hours and decide on whether the minor could stay in the US. This bill would appropriate 40 new immigration judges in order to alleviate backlog.

As it stands now, the current law provides that unaccompanied minors from Mexico and Canada have to be screened within 48 hours and returned to their country of origin unless a victim of human trafficking or making a claim for asylum. Unaccompanied minors from Central America have to be turned over to HHS and then appear at an immigration hearing – a much longer process.

It comes as no surprise that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus would not support the Cornyn-Cuellar bill.

In true Democratic fashion, Reid blames the House for this surge of illegal invaders by not passing the Senate’s “comprehensive immigration reform bill.”

Neither party in the Senate or the House has engaged their brain into thinking gear regarding immigration. Harry Reid has declared the border secure meaning that Americans can forget any type of measure to secure the border in the future. The Prince has spoken.

The Cornyn-Cuellar bill does not even begin to cover the problem with our porous border. Nowhere has anyone in government addressed the issue of Mexico authorizing illegal immigrants from Central America “safe” transport through their country on the way to the United States. And, if these illegal aliens are “fleeing” their countries in Central America from purported horrendous conditions, why not stay in Mexico? Why does Mexico have the authority to send these individuals to the United States? Why are they not enforcing their own immigration laws concerning illegals from Central America when they clearly impose harsh penalties for Americans who inadvertently cross the border as is the case with Sgt. Tahmooressi? Why is it that Mexican officials can violate our border, shoot at border patrol, cross back over and issue an apology with all being forgiven? Where is the appropriation for securing our border?

These are not difficult questions, but these questions are not being asked nor are they being addressed by officials in Washington.

In all honesty, this is an invasion of America
condoned, supported and instigated by this administration, Congressional Democrats, and agency secretaries complicit with the plan. The ruse perpetrated against the American people is the dog and pony show concerning “immigration reform.”

Are there problems contained in the immigration law? Of course there are. Why should someone who has jumped through all the hoops be on a waiting list for decades to enter the country? Why should preference be given to Hispanics and other ethnicities crossing illegally? Why are illegals treated differently based on their country of origin? These issues need to be addressed, but with the government in its current state, run by corrupt politicians on both sides of the aisle, it never will be.

But for now, Americans can relax, sit back and enjoy an ice-cold beverage. The Prince of Lies, Harry Reid, has declared the border secure!
