Impeachment Isn’t Just the Right Thing – It’s the Only Thing

Rush Limbaugh has this list he calls, the “35 Undeniable Truths of Life.” One of these truths that isn’t on the list, but should be, is that to the Left, everything is political.

After all, not a week goes by that he (Rush) doesn’t remind us of this. And good for him – because he’s right. It’s absolutely true.

Everything the left does or says is to gain some political advantage over the Republicans, or frankly, over the American people.

My only problem with Rush’s statement is that it’s only half true. Rarely does he equate the Republicans with this statement – as the establishment wing of the party certainly also feels this way.

The only difference might be that the Dems attempt to gain advantage on every issue whereas the establishment thinks only in terms of an advance for the next election. It’s micro vs. macro.

For the Democrats, it’s always the next cause – the Republicans – the next election. That’s the only difference. The sameness of both is to put party above all else – namely the country and what they swore an oath to uphold.

A shining example was a piece at, penned by Matt Towery entitled, “Why Republicans Should Avoid the Temptation to Impeach.”

He begins by extolling the virtues of born-again progressive, Newt Gingrich, writing: “Other than Ronald Reagan, no Republican elected official has had a more positive impact on actual public policy of a real conservative nature in my lifetime than former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.”

I agree that in the 90s, Gingrich was the man. His “Contract with America” was genius and it resonated with the American people. Towery is correct in pointing out that President Clinton moderated only by Gingrich’s force of will and tenacity.

Towery then explained that the rails started coming off when impeachment of Clinton became the number one issue and that he says was a mistake, due to Newt not being able to hold the party together.

Many Republicans, got nervous, turned against him, and Gingrich was ousted as Speaker.

Let’s stop right here for a second to discuss what has somehow become a dirty word – impeachment.

When the President of the United States commits unlawful acts, as Clinton did – lying under oath – he’s not like the rest of us. We, the people, nor our representatives can simply have the police arrest him, book him, and take him to trial.

The Constitution gives us but one recourse – impeachment – and it’s a perfectly legitimate and viable recourse. The House builds a case against the president through presentation of articles of impeachment (evidence) and the Senate tries the case.

Towery’s claim, as is the claim of many others on our side, as it were, is to not bother; being that the Senate would never try the case under “Dirty” Harry Reid, and would give the Democrats a “political advantage.”

So, I guess going forward that’s a new law enforcement ground rule. The police shouldn’t arrest, and no charges should be brought against anyone unless they’re sure they can successfully try the case ahead of time. Do I have that right?

So whether you think Clinton was set up or railroaded is immaterial now. Obama’s lawlessness is out there, plain as day, for all to see. It’s not debatable.

But Towery and many others in the establishment would rather turn a blind eye and instead as they do, look to the next election, and then excuse themselves as they look to the next. It’s always the “next” election.

At that point, they let the criminal walk free – all to avoid doing any heavy lifting.

Everyone on our side – conservative and moderate alike claims Obama is out of control and must be stopped. Impeachment is the only vehicle. It certainly isn’t a lawsuit, which I’ve already covered in my article “No to Impeachment – Yes to Lawsuit.”

Maybe I’m wrong about all this, but for the sake of justice – for the sake of our country – when is doing the right thing, not the right thing?

That’s right -when there is no political advantage to be gained.

Sorry, I forgot.
