John Ellis, writing at FrontPageMag, has a great article in search of the “smoking gun” that will pin the Internal Revenue Service decision to target conservatives squarely on Barack Obama. I personally think he makes a great case. His article is filled with reasonable, logical steps, and is undergirded by an immanent sound methodology.
And that’s part of why no one will pay any attention.
Ellis credits Ben Swann with the investigative method. Swann was trying to figure out the lowest possible level within the IRS that the order to target conservatives could have come from, given the fact that six lowly agents all swear to having received orders from their supervisors. Swann’s theory is that you would need to find the lowest level at which one person was capable of giving an order that would filter down to these six agents, having passed through several other different supervisors.
Meaning, if the six agents are managed by, say, three different supervisors, you’d need to find that official who could give the order to all three of these supervisors. Swann found that name, one Cindy Thomas. What this establishes is the lowest level that the order could have conceivably come from. It could have come from much higher, but not lower.
Ellis borrows Swann’s methodology and applies it more broadly. He cites a specific instance in which, having applied for IRS tax exempt status, a particular group was then harassed over the next two years with not only IRS audits, but also several visits from the FBI, a surprise OSHA inspection, and two ATF audits.
Ellis points out that this federal crap-storm was unleashed by more than one Department. It wasn’t simply Holder’s Orwellian-labeled Justice Department, or Treasury, or Labor. It was all of them. Swann’s methodology would suggest that since all these agencies take their orders from different cabinet-level officials, the specific instruction to harass this particular patriot group came from someone who had the ability to boss around all those Department heads. That’s the lowest possible level an order like that might have come from.
Of course, there’s only one man who can order around the members of the President’s Cabinet.
That’s right. And there you have a smoking gun.
