Biden: We’re Spending $100 Million in Tax Dollars on Mental Health to Protect Against Guns

Vice President Joe Biden has signed off on $100 million in taxpayer money being directed to fund mental health care in new community centers in rural areas.

Biden said: “The fact that less than half of children and adults with diagnosable mental health problems receive the treatment they need is unacceptable,” Mr. Biden said in a statement. “The president and I have made it a priority to do everything we can to make it easier to access mental health services.”

The $100 million will be divvied up between the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHA) and Obamacare will “help” local community health centers for the purpose of behavioral health services.

Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the DHHS said she would expand their “cracking down” on non-compliant mental health centers across the country with portions of the monies her department was given.

Jamison Monroe, chief executive officer of Newport Academy relayed: “It’s a small pebble in the pond. There is simply not enough resources, whether it is private funds, [health] insurance funds or public funds. This is a small step in the right direction.”

Monroe explained that “mental illness remains deeply misunderstood and stigmatized. It’s also a much more complex issue to address than a relatively simple step such as restricting the availability of guns. Behind closed doors in the comfort of their own homes, everybody would agree [we need better mental health services]. But not everybody is willing to stand on a pulpit and go to bat for that.”

Earlier this year, Biden claims that a mental health evaluation would have certainly prevented the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech.

Biden spoke to a panel that is pin-pointing specific criteria for proposals that would deny the sale of a firearm to those deemed mentally unfit.

Referred to as a “fireside hangout,” Biden discussed how safety issues can assist officials with Sebelius, and Janet Napolitano, then Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in assessing the threat levels of young people with regard to mental health.

Biden said: “There are things you can do that work. We don’t have to despair about being able to reduce gun violence. The better background record check system you have, the safer you are. To me that seems to be a very basic one, it’s a way of enforcing existing law.”

Last year, after the Sandy Hook shooting, Obama has asserted that the federal government will engage in preventing another mass shooting.

Mainstream media equated the incident and mental illness to push for an agenda of seeing those who commit acts of violence as mentally ill; and by inference those who are diagnosed with a mental illness as potentially capable of egregious acts of violence.

The Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) empowers the judicial system to have persons diagnosed with mental illness remain in treatment as a condition of living in the community; as only applicable to those suffering from serious mental disorders that could prone them to acts of violence and therefore would need to be incarcerated or hospitalized indefinitely.

By creating a federal definition of serious mental illness as well as devote federal funding to implement national actions to prevent mentally ill from becoming an issue of national importance. It is estimated 5 to 9 of Americans have been diagnosed with mental illness.

According to federal law the background checks preformed when guns are purchased are supposed keep firearms out of the hands of those previously diagnosed with mental illness. However gun shows do not necessitate background searches on purchases.

The National Instant Criminal Background Check Systems Index includes an estimated 7.3 million records of Americans forbidden to own a gun as stated by federal law.
