Kamala Harris’ campaign is certainly in trouble, and she has no one to blame but herself.
Harris came into the 2020 race as an early favorite. Not only was she someone with a history within government and some legal chops, but she also allowed the Democrats an opportunity to put forth a candidate of enhance diversity – a surefire vote-gathering trait.
But then Kamala became her own worst enemy.
In attempting to distance herself from her past as a prosecutor, and a woman who would recommend jail time for small-time, non-violent drug offenders, Harris inexplicably tried to laugh her past off by joking about “smoking weed” and listening to “Tupac and Snoop Dogg” while in college. As if this weren’t tone-deaf enough, a quick Google search demonstrated that Harris was precisely not in college or any higher educational tract at a time when either of those artists had released music.
Oh, and this was during Black History Month to boot.
Harris began to plummet in the polls almost immediately, but was on a bit of a rise when last night’s Democratic Debate in Atlanta began.
Then, Harris did this:
Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA), who was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in Berkeley, broke into her campaign-trail southern accent for just one question during Wednesday’s 2020 Democrat presidential debate in Atlanta, Georgia.
The odd moment occurred as Harris, who is polling in single digits nationally, explained how she would unite the “Obama coalition” to win the White House.
“Look, there’s a lot at stake in this election and I’ve said many times that justice is on the ballot in 2020,” Harris began. “It’s about economic justice, it’s about justice for children, it’s about justice for our teachers.”
“This issue is not, ‘what is the fight?’” Harris continued, before deploying the accent: “The issue is: ‘how we gonna win?”
Here’s the bizarre and cringeworthy moment:
It appears as though Harris has learned nothing from her earlier bout of pandering pandemonium.
