There have been many companies who have come out against the common-sense laws of North Carolina. They have cited equality as their aim. If this were true, then one would have to say that it was a laudable goal, but there is nothing in the new law that prohibits the transgender person.
So, it is one thing to say that you are going to bail on a project or a concert and a whole other thing to say you are going to take a stand in your community. And this is what Target has done.
Target says:
Inclusivity is a core belief at Target. It’s something we celebrate. We stand for equality and equity, and strive to make our guests and team members feel accepted, respected and welcomed in our stores and workplaces every day.

In our stores, we demonstrate our commitment to an inclusive experience in many ways. Most relevant for the conversations currently underway, we welcome transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity.
What this means is that in every Target, you will find that any person can use any facility they wish. This will seem to many to be a noble stand against discrimination. But in reality, it is creating a dangerous situation.
They end their statement this way.
Everyone deserves to feel like they belong. And you’ll always be accepted, respected and welcomed at Target.
The question of belonging is a good one. Are there places that I do not belong because I am a man? It seems, to ask the question is to answer it. But we now live in a society that common-sense answers are rejected for what “feels right.”
We will see if this policy will scare off customers. I for one am disappointed to have to say that they just lost three loyal customers. Not as I feel I should act to make or effect social change, but because I value the safety of my wife and daughter more than Target’s service.
And after all, it is just that simple.
