Majority Of Americans Want Spending Cuts, Instead They Get Taxed

Once again, as with Obamacare, the people of the United States be damned! A recent Rasmussen poll indicates that 62% of Americans favor across-the-board spending cuts, but of that number only 57% think they are likely. It does, however, appear that 77% of households will see an increase in their taxes thanks to Congress and the White House.

Rasmussen reports,

Even as official Washington signs off on a “fiscal cliff” deal with $1 in spending cuts to every $41 in new taxes, most voters continue to favor across-the-board spending cuts but doubt they are likely to happen. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that only 39% of Likely U.S. Voters think it is even somewhat likely that government spending will be significantly reduced over the next few years. Fifty-seven percent (57%) see significant spending cuts as unlikely. This includes 11% who believe such cuts are Very Likely in the near future and 20% who say they are Not At All Likely.

I suppose now we can not only say that it is not only “unlikely,” but doesn’t stand a chance and never did. Washington never implements real spending cuts.

However, you can bet your bottom dollar that you will see tax increases. Oh yes, you will pay more, at least if you are one of the unfortunate Americans who just got thrown over the cliff by your government. You will have to do without, while your government continues to demonize you and bleed you for more money, while at the same time continuing to spend like drunken sailors, and this applies to Republicans, as well as, Democrats.

The deal just passed by the House provides for no real spending cuts. Basically, Barack Obama and the Democrats got exactly what they wanted, while Republicans like Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pats himself on the back as though his “yes” vote on the bill was something that conservatives should be proud of, then starts babbling about the debt ceiling and spending cuts.

Interestingly, Graham said on his Facebook page, “I have repeatedly made it clear I will not vote to raise the debt ceiling unless we address why we are going further in debt.”

So I have a couple of questions for our GOP representatives who think like Sen. Graham. Once it’s addressed why we are going further in debt, will you increase the debt ceiling? I mean we all know the “why.” We just don’t want to cut spending, including Senator Graham. He just wants to divert that spending into the military, but he doesn’t really want to propose real, serious cuts to welfare programs and wasteful expenditures in the federal government.

Second, Graham also signed a Tax Pledge put out by Americans for Tax Reform. I thought he was real clear about not raising taxes. Apparently not s he said on Facebook, “Last night I voted for and the Senate passed legislation which prevents the expiration of the Bush-era tax cuts for 99 percent of Americans. Without this legislation, there will be a dramatic increase in every South Carolinians’ taxes.” Which means Graham did what many did and that is they played the class warfare game of the Obama administration and thought it was best that those who make more than others should shoulder the tax burden, rather than dealing with everyone equally.

I suppose “being real clear” about something in Washington is code for “this is my stance until pressure is applied.” Thanks for nothing.
