Mitt Romney: The Man Who Won’t Be President

I’d rather impale my tongue on a rusty nail, then have to take a tetanus shot with a dull needle in my eye ball, than write another column about Mitt Romney.

After years spent fighting to stop him from capturing the nomination because I knew he couldn’t win for all the reasons he didn’t, but then wanting him to win more than he seemed to want to, I had hoped we had finally heard the last of the double-minded chameleon born on third and credited with a triple. By all rights, we should have. Jimmy Carter hasn’t been an influential voice in the Democrat Party since 1980, and he actually won the presidency once.

However, never underestimate two things:

  1. The ego of a bored multi-millionaire.
  2. The ruling class’s complete disdain for the American patriot.

As a result, the trolling Leftist media, who sold out to silence Romney during the 2012 election, now says we should all listen to him. And a ruling class nervous about Chris Christie’s escalating negatives and the “meh” reaction to Jeb Bush, is running short on options that will most assuredly lose another national election, but allow them to maintain their steely grip on GOP power nonetheless.

For months this year, as “Romney 2016″ was bandied about in the media, I refused to take the bait because it was obvious they were trolling us. These people’s favorite story to cover is dissension within the Republican Party. They know the mere mention of the name “Romney” generates that desired dissension from a grassroots that barely put up with him the last time. But now I’m seeing some pundits allegedly on our own side floating this trial balloon, which was thoroughly popped (like an unwanted zit) by the American people in 2012.

Then again, what else should we expect from the party of girly men named Boehner, McConnell, Cantor, and Graham? Leave it to a GOP that has sadly mastered the Peter Principle, where individuals rise to the level of their own incompetence, to say “to the losers go the spoils.”

I don’t remember Walter Mondale attaining “elder statesman” status in the Democrat Party, do you? Which nationally-ambitious Democrats are hovering around Al Gore in the hopes of obtaining his blessing?

But in the Republican Party, John McCain is seemingly on the Sunday shows more since losing the presidency than he was while he was running. And a guy that got, ahem, 47% against a president who was re-elected despite getting well over 3 million fewer votes than he got the last time, is now supposedly our professor emeritus?

This is what happens when you’re led by people who hate you. They can’t possibly risk letting the process of you having a voice in determining your champion play itself out, so they have to keep coming up with increasingly bad ideas to thwart you. These are people who are fine with losing elections, provided they don’t lose control.

So Romney was right about Russia? So what? Other than hate-America Marxists, who hasn’t been right about Russia being the bad guy since the Bolshevik Revolution? Apparently our standards are now so low that knowing as much about geo-politics as a script writer on 24 means you’re also qualified to lose another presidential election.

Where was Romney while we were trying to defund Obamacare? Answer: he opposed us. Where has Romney been on the ongoing border crisis? Answer: arguing for amnesty. Where has Romney been during the current clash over religious liberty? Answer: urging Arizona’s governor to essentially veto the First Amendment.

I could continue, but by now you get where I’m going here.

The American people are finished with Republican corporatist candidates. I doubt we’ll ever see one win a national election again in my lifetime. Democrat Victimology always trumps Republican corporatism.

Voters have never chosen the Republican corporatist who promises to make the statists’ trains run on time. When they want statism, they vote for the statists. When they want liberty, they vote Republican. This is why only Republicans who stand in stark contrast to the Democrats can win national elections, and those who don’t cannot. Romney did that during his first debate against Obama, but then became the case study in passive-aggressiveness we were accustomed to the rest of the way–eventually losing an election he should’ve won.

If this were a healthy political party, that would’ve met putting Romney out to pasture. But in today’s sickly Republican Party, he gets a stud fee instead. Heck, if this were a healthy political party, somebody like Romney, who has held every single position on the issues Obama currently has at some point in his career, wouldn’t have had a chance to be the party standard-bearer in the first place.

Want to finish off whatever is left of the GOP? Hand it back to Romney.
