A ban on walking your kids home from school? Hard to believe but true. Earlier this month, a Texas principal was called out over a new rule that went into effect that would not allow parents to walking to and from the school with their children. In fact, it could lead to their arrest. Well, several mothers were having none of it and addressed the Magnolia ISD Trustees over the matter.
Listen to the moms who were threatened by law enforcement. That’s right, they were told, “Do that again and you could be charged with trespassing.”

Many of the parents who are outraged live in the neighborhood.
One mother, Wendy Jarman, lives behind the school and told FOX 26 that the principal is “threatening to arrest people.”
Jarman that this has happened on several occasions to other parents. “They have been cited. They have been threatened, if they step one foot on school property, they will be arrested and charged with who knows what.”

Breitbart Texas spoke to community members and obtained a recent dismissal process reminder letter in which Ray threatened parents and guardians with truancy classes and even, doling out In-School Suspension (ISS), a punishment that elementary school-age children could potentially serve because their parents break the pickup rules.
Ray plucked the directive out of the district’s 2015-16 Student Handbook. It reads:
“When an elementary student is tardy to school and/or leaves early eight times as documented by the attendance office, the parent will be asked to attend a truancy class provided by the District. If the parent chooses not to attend the parenting class within two weeks, the child will be assigned one day of In-School suspension (ISS) or other options decided by the campus administration.”
This went into effect on March 30, according to Ray’s recent letter. She promised “consequences will be enforced” should a parent fail to comply with truancy rules listed in the district’s Student Code of Conduct, a handbook based on Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code, which addresses actions subject to disciplinary consequences. Also known as the school-to-prison pipeline, these zero tolerance polices often derail underage lives by putting them in contact with the juvenile justice system.
In the letter, Ray maintained the same position as in September – that the dismissal policy change was made “out of concern for student safety.” She insisted that parents who walk to school at the end of the day “…are hindering the staff’s ability to be accountable for all students’ safety.”
“Our first priority at Bear Branch Elementary is to create a safe, nurturing learning environment for your child,” the Wednesday statement read. “With the support of the majority of our parents, the pick-up has been running more efficiently as we are able to dismiss car riders within 30 minutes and dismiss walkers at 3:50 or sooner as the drive line diminishes.”
Wouldn’t the pickup line run even more efficiently if there were less cars? This has everything to do with control and not efficiency or safety.
“Mrs. Ray’s policy is implying that a parent doesn’t have the ability or capability to decide what is safest for their children and that the school district does,” Frank Young told KRIV. “I disagree.”
Granted, many parents have simply decided to remove their children from the school following the rule put in place by Bear Branch Elementary School Principal Holly Ray in 2015. However, the claims of “safety” for the children is a ridiculous one, since people can drive through and pick up their kids too, only they have to wait for45 minutes to an hour to do so. There isn’t anyone verifying identity. So, since the children belong to the parents and since the school is a publicly funded school, how in the world are parents told how they can pick their children up and then charged with trespassing if they choose to walk with their children, which is a normal and health thing to do?
I’ll help you with that answer, it’s called turning your kids over to the state! If you don’t like what the state is doing, then don’t just protest it, abandon it! Why do these people continue to subject their children to a godless state indoctrination system that is systematically undermining their parental authority? Why are they not following the command of God and teaching their own children (Deuteronomy 6)? And for parents K-5, they can begin doing it absolutely free!
Parents of students could end this very quickly by simply not complying in sending their children to the school and thus, it would leave Principal Ray with no job. While I can appreciate the parent’s frustration and their willingness to stand and speak out, the root of the problem is the public school system, not the ridiculous rule of the school. The question is, will they take responsibility to deal with the root issue and educate their own children or will they continue to subject them to the state, and be criminalized by doing so?
