Barack Obama seized the nation’s celebration of the Fourth of July as a moment to capitalize politically on the issue of immigration. While the Obama administration has been deporting illegals, just weeks ago Obama came out ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling on the Arizona immigration law and declared they would not enforce the law on illegals up to age 30. Having nearly four years under his belt, Obama has waited to address the issue of immigration until just months before the election and everyone knows he is only doing it to get the votes of illegals in this country and their families.
Newsmax reports,
Wearing a red tie to celebrate the July 4th holiday at the White House, Obama addressed about two dozen foreign-born military personnel who were taking advantage of a program that offers them citizenship in return for their service.
Obama, who is running for re-election in November, seized the opportunity to talk up his recent order lifting the threat of deportation for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children.
The move appealed to Hispanic voters, a major voting bloc that could swing the election to the Democratic incumbent in battleground states such as Nevada and Colorado.
Obviously Obama thought it would be much more palatable if he addressed military members. After all, it’s Independence Day. He also thought that appealing in front of legal immigrants in America’s uniform might make it a bit more palatable. These men and women had gone through the process and were going to be administered the oath of allegiance that would deem them as naturalized citizens. There in lies the rub. Those he addressed were all legal immigrants from several countries.
“You put on the uniform of a country that was not yet fully your own. In a time of war, some of you deployed into harm’s way. You displayed the values that we celebrate every Fourth of July — duty, responsibility, and patriotism,” Obama said.
This is true and they should be commended for such. Then Obama crossed the line. “Just as we remain a nation of laws, we have to remain a nation of immigrants,” Obama said.
Well yes we are a nation of laws and a nation of immigrants, as well as natural born citizens. I myself am not an immigrant, but I’m sure somewhere in my family tree my ancestors were. However, for Barack Obama to claim “we are a nation of laws” as he completely denounced that immigration laws at the federal level mean nothing is rather hypocritical. Let me put it this way: What good are laws if even the chief law enforcement officer will not enforce them? They are good for nothing.
“That’s why as another step forward we’re lifting the shadow of deportation … from deserving young people who were brought to this country as children,” he said. See? Exactly my point. There are laws governing this and he will not enforce them. He has simply ignored the rule of law in favor of his ability to score points with illegal immigrants.
He also said that America still needs the DREAM Act and comprehensive immigration reform. The problem is the last time Barack Obama talked about reforming something we got a massive tax for not buying health insurance. What will happen should he be allowed to push issues of immigration on America? Oh wait, that’s already happened when he declared his independence from America stating that he would not uphold the law.
