Two Ohio Senators are sponsoring a bill in the Buckeye State that is preemptively striking against Washington’s gun grab legislation insanity. Senator Kris Jordan introduced SB36 which would prohibit firearms seizures, registration and bans in Ohio. Senator Tim Schaffer co-sponsored the bill as it was introduced on February 12, 2013.
In addition, to the above items in the bill, it also prohibits forced gun registration and includes first degree felony charges to any law enforcement officer (state or federal) or international agent who attempts to enforce a firearm registration or firearm ban.
The summary of the bill reads:
To enact sections 5502.23 and 5502.231 of the Revised Code to prohibit any agency and its employees and agents from seizing or authorizing the seizure of any firearm from any person lawfully in possession or control of the firearm except when a law enforcement officer reasonably believes the immediate seizure of the firearm is necessary for the safety of the officer or another person or to preserve the firearm as evidence, to prohibit the establishment of a firearm registry, and to prohibit law enforcement officers and international agents from enforcing a firearms registration requirement or firearm ban.

Senator Jordan, in responding to the 1995 interview on 60 minutes with Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), said, “These law abiding Ohioans are not the ones to be scared of, rather it is the politicians who say it is their goal to disarm “Mr. and Mrs. America” that we should fear.”
Republicans are expected to give strong support to the bill since they control the Ohio General Assembly and it is ultimately expected to be on Republican Governor John Kasich’s desk for his signature.
Kasich recently expressed, “I’m a Second Amendment supporter and that’s not going to change. There are a range of issues at play here involving mental health, school security and a culture that at times fails to reject the glorification of violence that can desensitize us to the sanctity and majesty of life. Going forward, we need to pay close attention to what the experts conclude from this incident in order to see if there are lessons to be learned and applied here in Ohio.”
I am cautious in regards to Governor Kasich as he caved on the Obamacare and Medicaid. It makes me even more cautious of his statement above. Especially the part about “Going forward, we need to pay close attention to what the experts conclude from this incident in order to see if there are lessons to be learned and applied here in Ohio.” Some might call me crazy, but the reality is that we must encourage Kasich to do the right thing and this appeal to “experts” conclusions and “lessons to be learned and applied” give me pause. With that said, I think Ohioans should contact their representatives, senators and governor and encourage them to pass this new legislation to nullify Washington’s attacks.
