Home » Radical Samantha Power Proceeds To Senate To Be Confirmed As UN Ambassador
On Tuesday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee overwhelmingly approved Barack Obama’s nominee Samantha Power to be the ambassador to the United Nations. The next stop for the radical Power is the U.S. Senate for a full vote on her confirmation.
Fifteen of the 18 members of the panel voted in favor of Power, who is expected to win confirmation from the Senate easily.
Power has been criticized by many conservatives for statement she made in a 2002 interview, where she seemed to suggest that the U.S. Army might be needed to police the Middle East conflict if either Israel or the Palestinians move toward genocide.
Power is also married to Cass Sunstein, who was the Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs in the Obama administration.
One of those that oppose her is retired Lt. Gen William G. “Jerry” Boykin, who believes that her track record indicates that she would likely concede US sovereignty to the United Nations.
Speaking at the National Press Club, Boykin said, “Samantha Power’s attitude that we cede our sovereignty to the United Nations is very misguided and very dangerous as far as I’m concerned.”
This monolithic body called the United Nations would very much like to usurp the individual liberties of Americans and be a global dominant government,” said Boykin, who is the executive vice president of the family and faith advocacy group, Family Research Council. “We should be proud to be Americans, and if you look at Samantha Power’s track record there is a strong indication that her attitude is just the opposite.”
“That she would like to very much convince us that we should be ashamed of America,” Boykin said, adding that people should investigate what Power has said and written in the past as he has done.
“I think you will conclude, just as I have, is what she would really like to do is to cede our authority to that international body,” Boykin said.
Others have stood against her as well. Forty-nine groups and individuals signed a letter that was sent to every member of Congress opposing Power’s nomination. The letter read in part:
“Now, more than ever, the United States needs to return to the kind of U.N. representation it has enjoyed in the past with prominent figures from both parties, such as Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Jeanne Kirkpatrick and John Bolton. They loved and admired our nation, exulted in its exceptionalism and courageously defended it against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
“They were under no illusions about the United Nations and routinely challenged efforts to increase its influence and power at America’s expense. Samantha Power’s decades-long track record makes clear that she neither embraces these principles nor is disposed to play this important role in advancing them.”
Even Lt. Col. Allen West called Power “an uber-left, militant progressive whose previous statements against America and Israel should cause us concern.”
Power was a senior foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama during his first campaign, but was forced to resign because of disparaging remarks about Hillary Clinton. However, she returned after he gained office. She was also heavily involved with the Libyan intervention. Currently, she is head of the human rights division of the National Security Council.
If confirmed, Power would be taking the place of known liar Susan Rice, who has now been appointed as National Security Advisor. You could say it was quid pro quo for the lies she told about Benghazi, no?
On Tuesday, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee also approved Victoria Nuland to serve as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs.
