Republican Congressmen: Let Us Recognize Benghazi Survivors

In a key move, which should have been done months ago, Congressman Frank Wolf (R-VA), Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, and Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-PA), a House Ways and Means Committee member, sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday asking to both recognize and speak with “as many as 30 Americans (including State Department and CIA personnel and government contractors) may have been injured in the attack” in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.

Letter to Kerry

According to the letter, “Rep. Wolf was recently contacted by a reliable source who provided information that there are wounded American personnel, including State Department employees, currently in rehabilitation and recovery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. This source indicated that as man as seven Americans have been or are currently being treated at the hospital, several of which were State Department employees.”

The letter then acknowledges that a second source corroborated the claim and added that “as many as 30 Americans (including State Department and CIA personnel and government contractors) may have been injured in the attack.”

The Congressmen then said that they wanted to visit with the individuals who are presently at Walter Reed saying, “they have endured much for their country and we owe them a debt of gratitude.”

They also believe that since these individuals have served in Benghazi, their perspective would provide “invaluable insight to a dark day in American history – a day which is still shrouded in much mystery.”

They then requested the State Departments aid in acquiring the name and contact information for each of the State Department survivors of the Benghazi attacks in order to make arrangements to meet with them.

They then appealed to those survivors as “heroes” and stated, “They deserve recognition; not a cloak of secrecy.”

The two Congressmen then sent a letter to their colleagues which also discussed the survivors of the Benghazi attack and called upon House Republicans to support co-sponsoring H. Res 36, which would create a House Select Committee on the Terrorist Attack in Benghazi.
