Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine: This Is What “Leading From Behind” Gets Us

Remember this? You should, for it’s been all over the news recently. “After the Russian army invaded the nation of Georgia, Senator Obama’s reaction was one of indecision and moral equivalence, the kind of response that would only encourage Russia’s Putin to invade Ukraine next,” Sarah Palin told foreign policy in 2008.

Boy, that Sarah Palin. What a foreign policy dope. Glad she’s not in charge.

I’m glad we instead have leaders like Obama, Biden and John Kerry, even if they collectively have never made a correct foreign policy decision… Ever!

Is Putin really this brash, to stare down the West as he reconstitutes the Soviet empire? It appears he is.

Now, he won’t say that is what he is doing, but that is what he intends. Why do we suppose he thinks he can get away with it? That’s simple. Because the current “Leader of the Free World” is a schoolyard bully. Remove him from his familiar schoolyard environment and he is a shrinking violet.

Oh sure, Obama can push around the cowed American people and tie us up like politically correct pretzels. He can sic the Internal Revenue Service and the Environmental Protection Agency on us, but he can’t do that to Putin. He can attempt to push Israel around due to the worlds overall hatred and anti-Semitism toward them. But that’s about it.

The rest of the world, the bad guys, no longer fear the United States. And why should they?

Since Obama has been president, it has been one country after another thumbing their noses at us. In 2011, the Atlantic reported on the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq. “President Obama’s speech formally declaring that the last 43,000 US troops will leave Iraq by the end of the year was designed to mask an unpleasant truth: the troops are being withdrawn because the US wants them out. They’re leaving because the Iraqi government refused to let them stay.”

Fox news reported in 2013 that, “Afghan leader Karzai was making demands of the administration regarding the withdrawal of US forces. One of the demands was that the United States should address a suggestion by the Loya Jirga that all Afghan prisoners be released from Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.”

Now, why did the leadership of 2 countries we just liberated, leadership that we effectively installed, think that they could get away with demanding anything? Again, no one fears our all-talk-no-action president.

The whole world has been witness to Obama’s weakness; his oxymoronic “Leadership from Behind.” They see his weak stance on Iran, as they continue their unabated quest for a bomb. They saw the ever shifting red line in Syria. It may have well been, follow the bouncing red ball.

A few days ago, Charles Krauthammer commented on Obama’s statement that the United States will stand with the international community in affirming that there will be costs for any military intervention in Ukraine. Krauthammer said, “The Ukrainians, and I think everybody, is shocked by the weakness of the Obama statement. I find it rather staggering. What he’s saying is we’re not really going to do anything and were telling the world.”

Um…duh! Is Krauthammer serious? Is he really shocked? He shouldn’t be. This is exactly what happens when we put an academic, leftist, military hating, community organizer in charge.

Question is; will the world wait until 2016, for us to maybe find the next Reagan? Will we survive that long?

Maybe it’s time to return to the policy of, We’d Rather Be Feared Than Loved.

In closing, I’d like to share a couple of quotes by America’s greatest commander-in-chief, George Washington, of which Mark Levin reminded me.

From Washington’s first annual message, January 8, 1790:

“Among the many interesting objects which will engage your attention that of providing for the common defense will merit particular regard. To be prepared for war is one of the most effectual means of preserving peace.”

And from his fifth annual message, December 3, 1793:

“There is a rank due to the United States among nations which will be withheld, if not absolutely lost, by the reputation of weakness. If we desire to avoid insult, we must be able to repel it; if we desire to secure peace, one of the most powerful instruments of our rising prosperity; it must be known that we are at all times ready for war.”

Once again, leave it to a founding father to show us the way. How far we have fallen.
