To date the Senate has confirmed a total of 50 Trump administration nominees. To put that in perspective the Senate had confirmed 202 officials by this same point in the Obama administration.” — White House Director of Legislative Affairs Mark Short
Democrats and their partners in the media have been complaining, almost incessantly, about the lack of employees in the Executive Branch of government. The anti-Trump contingent argues that this is simply another example of the inability of the Trump administration to properly handle their duties.
TIME made this argument back in June:
President Trump Wants Congress to Confirm His Nominees. He Should Appoint More
Blaming the President may be easy, but as Time concedes the President had nominated more than 150 officials and only seen 39 confirmed (at that point in early June). But TIME still argued that the problem lay with the Trump administration’s inability to nominate more officials. Sadly, the problem with this narrative is that the Trump administration has nominated dozens and dozens of officials for office… but has only had 50 of them confirmed thus far. To put that low number into context, President Obama had already had 202 of his officials confirmed by this point in his presidency. That’s an incredibly disproportionate response and it has more to do with Democrats dragging their feet than it does with the administration being incompetent.

So while TIME would like to see MORE nominees from the Trump administration, the reality is it doesn’t matter how many people Trump nominates if the Senate refuses to confirm his picks.
