Spending Bill Demonstrates Once Again Republicans Are Just As Much A Part Of The Problem As Democrats

Unlike their counterparts in DC’s WWE, Republicans are in power and they just will not advance a constitutional nor conservative agenda.  The recent spending bill to continue unconstitutional spending that was agreed to on Sunday evening in order to avert a government shutdown, but as always the Republicans do not know how to lead and thus they are kicking the can down the road once again.

On Tuesday, Trump tweeted, “The reason for the [budget plan] negotiated between Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate, which are not there!”

OK, stop right there.  President Trump has the power to ignore the bill that is before him.  Why must we wait until September.  If a “good shutdown” will work in September, why won’t it work in May, Mr. President?  The fact is that when Trump signs that bill he will be violating his oath of office just like every member of congress that voted for the bill due to the billions in unconstitutional spending it contains, which Congress is not authorized to spend, and which the Executive Branch is supposed to be a check and balance on, but it’s not.

Frankly, I’m tired of hearing the excuses here.  Trump and the Republicans have known the numbers game with the Senate since January.  If they wanted to change the rules, they should have done that.  They did it with the Gorsuch nomination.  Knowing what they were up against, why didn’t they do that?

This bill contains no funding for the border wall, which was a promise Trump made.

White House budget director Mick Mulvaney seemed to be saying something strange in comparison to what Trump tweeted on Tuesday.

“They wanted a shutdown,” Mulvaney said of Democrats. “We know that. They were desperate to make this administration look like we couldn’t function, like we couldn’t govern.”

Well, Mr. Mulvaney, I’m sort of asking that question and I’m not a Democrat.  Why is it that Republicans control every single aspect of the Congress and the White House, but don’t have the guts to stop the spending bill if it doesn’t give them what they promised, and more importantly, what is constitutional?  Isn’t the key to that bill becoming law, President Trump’s signature?  Why yes, yes it is!

Furthermore, it sounds to me like President Trump wants a government shutdown, something I think that would be good for a change, but he wants to put it off till September.  I am sure it is so it can be politicized for elections this year, although I question whether or not a shutdown would happen then either.

Mulvaney warned that if Democrats “aren’t going to behave any better” when September rolls around, then a shutdown just might be “inevitable.”

But blame the Democrats for this when the GOP is the party in power.  Everyone expects the Democrats to oppose Trump and the Republicans.  How about a little opposition by the Republicans?  How about standing up and leading by principles and the confines of the Constitution?

By the way, included in that spending bill are these little caveats:

  • Increases the number of non-agricultural guest workers who can receive a temporary visa to work in the United States
  • An emergency fund for infectious diseases worth $75 million
  • Blocks the DOJ from spending money to prevent states from “implementing their own laws that authorize the use, distribution, possession, or cultivation of medical marijuana.”
  • Increases by 2,500 the number of “special immigrant visas” available for Afghan interpreters who helped the United States military in Afghanistan
  • $100 million for a new “Countering Russian Influence Fund,” which specifically targets the money towards civil society groups that “strengthen democratic institutions and processes, and counter Russian influence and aggression.”
  • Seafood branding the “brown king crab” to the “golden king crab.”  (Yeah, because that is what Washington is supposed to do, right?)

I ask you, if you were unfamiliar with politics in the US and came here, which party would you think was actually in power currently?

You know, I have to give it to the Democrats.  They rammed Obamacare through without a single Republican vote, not one!  They risked it all to advance their agenda.  Why won’t Republicans do that?  Is it because many of them are compromised men?  Are some controlled opposition?  Are they just comfortable with their positions of power?  Or are we, in reality, just watching a politicized WWE?
