Ted Cruz Rallies Conservatives to Hold the Line against Obamacare

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) rallied and exhorted conservatives to keep up their fight against Obamacare, just ahead of talks where some of his Republican colleagues are scheduled to engage the White House in talks that many believe will end in compromise. In fact, many are of the opinion that House leadership is ready to abandon demands to defund of change the health law as a possible agreement to end the partial government shutdown.

In speaking at the annual Values Voter Summit in Washington on Friday morning, Cruz and other conservatives continued their valiant fight.

The Texas senator, who along with Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, helped drive the showdown with the White House over ObamaCare, joked that he’ll be heading next to the meeting with his colleagues at the White House, and “if I’m never seen again, please send a search-and-rescue team.”

But Cruz also delivered a stern message to conservatives, amid signs that the upcoming meeting could lead Senate GOP leaders to dial back their demands on ObamaCare.

“We’re nearing the edge of a cliff,” Cruz said, focusing his remarks almost exclusively on the health law. “What does it take to win this fight? It takes the men and women in this room.”

Cruz also urged the House of Representatives to keep “standing strong.”

Cruz and conservative Republicans have demanded that Obamacare be defunded as part of the spending bill, but Barack Obama and Harry Reid aren’t budging. Sadly, many Republicans are willing to budge and not stand.

>Now some Senate Republicans are crafting their own alternate proposal to deal with the partial shutdown and Obamacare. The obvious problem is that these spending bills need to originate in the House, which is what our own John DeMayo has previously pointed out.

The nonsense coming out of Republicans who are afraid of a little fight and want things quickly resolved so they don’t catch any heat is seriously flawed. They are winning by holding Obama and the Democrats accountable.

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME) has proposed a six-month extension of government spending, a repeal of Obamacare’s medical device tax and greater flexibility for agencies to deal with across-the-board spending cuts.

The obvious question is, why stop at medical devices tax? That affects very few people in America.

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), as usually tows Obama’s line for him, saying that the goal is to end the partial shutdown and raise the debt limit. “We will not defund Obamacare,” he said.

McCain is only looking out for himself here. He has given up the fight against Obamacare. He is ready to allow the federal government to burden us and our children and their children with more debt. When a man has lost his spine, he is easily squashed.

Reid has already told us that negotiations on the government shutdown are “not going to happen.” Barack Obama has said he is not budging. Then why are Republicans willing to budge?

Cruz’s speech was interrupted more than half a dozen times by protesters.
