In a move that I am elated to see, President Donald Trump has taken a major step to defund Planned Parenthood, both internationally and domestically.
President Donald Trump today signed an executive order to defund International Planned Parenthood.
Most pro-life Americans are anxiously awaiting Congress to pass a bill to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business. While that defunding legislation concerns the domestic-based Planned Parenthood abortion corporation, President Trump has the ability to put in place an executive order that would revoke funding for its International affiliate.
When pro-abortion former President Barack Obama took office, Obama overturned a policy that prevented funding of groups that promote or perform abortions overseas. The Mexico City Policy covered over $400 million in federal funds, part of which flowed to the abortion businesses International Planned Parenthood and Marie Stopes International for their foreign efforts.
The Executive Memorandum to reinstate the Mexico City Policy stops taxpayer funding of groups that perform and promote abortions overseas but does not stop non-abortion international assistance. The order ensures U.S. foreign aid will continue to go to health care and humanitarian relief in the millions of dollars. It just will not subsidize abortion overseas.
This is excellent news!
Trump spokesman Sean Spicer said reinstating the Mexico City Policy illustrates to the people of the US “and to people of the world…what a value we place on life.”
Trump “wants to stand up for all Americans including the unborn,” and ensure taxpayer funding is ”reflecting American values,” including the respect for life, Spicer added.
Students for Life of America issued a statement saying, “This is a great start to the Trump presidency and we hope this is only the beginning of defunding Planned Parenthood and the end of forcing American taxpayers to fund an industry that ends hundreds of thousands of innocent lives a year and irreparably harms women. This is a new day for all Americans, and we are excited about reversing Planned Parenthood’s hold on Washington.”
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins applauded Trump’s restoral of the Mexico City Policy. “This is a vital step in the journey to make America great again, recognizing and affirming the universal ideal that all human beings have inherent worth and dignity, regardless of their age or nationality,” he said.
“I thank President Trump for issuing an executive order in keeping with his campaign promise that he will protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions,” he added.
Thank you @POTUS for reinstating the #MexicoCityPolicy! No more foreign aid for Int’l @PPact. This is only the beginning of #defundPP!

“The Mexico City Policy should be made permanent, and audits of grant recipients from USAID and other federal agencies should be performed to ensure that it is truly enforced,” said Human Life International President Fr. Shenan Boquet. “The Trump administration has kept one important promise to those who put them in office, we pray that these pro-life decisions continue and that all federal support of abortion is ended without delay, taking us closer to the time when all abortions will be ended, all innocent life welcomed, and all mothers supported in their decision to welcome life into the world.”
“President Trump is continuing Ronald Reagan’s legacy by taking immediate action on day one to stop the promotion of abortion through our tax dollars overseas.” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser in an email to LifeNews.com. “President Trump’s immediate action to promote respect for all human life, including vulnerable unborn children abroad, as well as conscience rights, sends a strong signal about his Administration’s pro-life priorities.”
“This is a welcome first step on Trump’s first full business day in office. It shows us that he is serious about keeping the promises he made to protect innocent lives from abortion,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Today’s executive action shows Trump is placing a high priority on protecting the pre-born.”
Of course, serial murderer and profiteer Cecile Richard blasted the move.
BREAKING: As one of his first acts in office, President Trump has reinstated the #GlobalGag rule.
— Cecile Richards (@CecileRichards) January 23, 2017
No, Ms. Richards, he stood against you and your murderous goons, who think human life is not worth $200!
Planned Parenthood parroted the same bile.
Donald Trump has reinstated the #GlobalGag rule. @CecileRichards explains what this could mean for women & girls: https://t.co/Jna6hIm92K

The #TrumpGlobalGag rule will cause clinic closures around the world, resulting in more unintended pregnancy & unsafe abortion, not less.
— Planned Parenthood Action (@PPact) January 23, 2017
The closing of clinics, yes, and that for the better. Unintended pregnancy? Really? That was the choice of the male and female who engaged in sexual intercourse! Unsafe Abortion? Tell it to those who went for their “legal and safe abortions” who ended up in ambulances, hospitals or the morgue!
This move by Trump is a bold and courageous move, one that I applaud!
A Gallup poll about the decision found that 58 percent of respondents opposed the pro-abortion move, while 35 percent supported it. Seven percent didn’t have a clue.
If you are asking whether or not President Trump had authority to do this, the answer is yes. Why? It’s because Congress never had authority to fund the murder of the unborn in the first place and the president never had authority to sign that funding into law.
Here are other pledges that Trump made on the campaign trail.
• Nominate a pro-life conservative to the U.S. Supreme Court. • Appoint strong pro-life judges to the Federal Courts. • Defund Planned Parenthood. • Pass the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act banning abortions at 20 weeks and later.
• Repeal and replace Obamacare and the abortion mandate that forces the insured to pay for abortions and abortifacient drugs.
