Ukraine: Sticking Our Nose & Our Money Where It Doesn’t Belong… Again

Didn’t we get enough Arab Spring type uprisings in our support of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, in our “leading from the rear” in Libya that got our Ambassador and three other Americans killed, in spending billions of dollars and thousands of American lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, then pulling out with no accomplishments whatsoever, and in drawing a line in Syria we couldn’t defend? Really, haven’t we had enough?

This week our news is filled with the now familiar sights of the fires, the bombings, the riotings and the killings in the Ukraine as “freedom fighters” sought to overthrow the established Ukranian government. The duly elected president, Viktor Yanukovich, fled for his life into the welcoming arms of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was standing by, ready to exploit the unrest by sending Russian troops to occupy much of the country. So much for our “freedom” revolution.

But while our politicians were trying to figure out whose side we should be on, if any, Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Victoria Nuland, revealed that, “Since the declaration of Ukrainian independence [from the USSR] in 1991, the United States has supported the Ukrainians in the development of democratic institutions and skills in promoting a civil society and a good form of government – We have invested more than 5 billion dollars to help Ukraine to achieve these and other goals, ” and will continue to “promote Ukraine to the future it deserves.”

And while the Obama Administration was attempting to spin that one away, there was posted on the Internet an 8 minute private call from Nuland to the US ambassador in Kiev, Geoffrey Pyatt, in which they discussed in great detail their manipulation of the revolutionary uprising. Who should be in — who should be out. It’s believed it could have been the Ukrainian or Russian secret services that eavesdropped and published the conversation, but regardless, the truth is out. The Obama Administration, from Ms. Nuland’s own admission, actively promoted the current Ukrainian massacre.

Up till now, Washington had been piously pretending that its involvement was only that of an innocent bystander. Ms. Nuland’s conversation laid bare the subversive meddling agenda of the Administration in Ukrainian internal affairs.

So, President Obama talked with Russian President Putin on the telephone, and Secretary of State Kerry flew into Kiev with a satchel full of taxpayer dollars to give what’s left of our “freedom fighters” another $1billion line of US credit guarantees. Mr. Kerry then flew into Paris to negotiate peace with Ukranian and Russian foreign ministers, but it fell through.

The bottom line is, we stuck our nose in, again, where it didn’t belong. We got our nose bloodied, and thousands of civilians killed. Obama warned Putin that if he interfered with the freedom fighters revolution, “there will be costs.” Putin interfered, and Mr. Obama was right. There were costs. Thousands of lives lost, and the Russian Bear firmly entrenched in another part of the Middle East, from which it has firm control over the supply of natural gas desperately needed by our European allies.

Good show, Mr. President.
