As the Democrats’ push their impeachment “inquiry” ever nearer to the public eye, Americans the nation over are wondering one thing: Will we hear from the whistleblower who touched off the mania in the first place?
For many on the left side of the aisle, the whistleblower’s testimony has been deemed unnecessary. They tend to believe that the subsequent parade of witnesses that they’ve interviewed in the anonymous complainant’s wake will suffice as far as impeachment goes.
In other words; the whistleblower is just the new Steele Dossier, meant to rattle the cages of the White House so that the Democrats can then chastise the dogs for barking.
Understandably, this has been an unacceptable possibility for the President and his team, and the pressure to have the whistleblower questioned during the impeachment “inquiry” has now come to this…
A lawyer for the whistleblower who raised alarms about President Donald Trump’s dealings with Ukraine said Sunday his client is willing to answer written questions submitted by House Republicans.
The surprise offer, made to Rep. Devin Nunes, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, would allow Republicans to ask questions of the whistleblower, who spurred the Democratic-led impeachment inquiry, without having to go through the committee’s chairman, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
But would the answers be binding in any way? Lawyers for the anonymous government employee say yes.
Attorney Mark Zaid tweeted that the whistleblower would answer questions directly from Republican members “in writing, under oath & penalty of perjury,” part of a bid to stem escalating efforts by Trump and his GOP allies to unmask the person’s identity. Only queries seeking the person’s identity won’t be answered, he said.
“Being a whistleblower is not a partisan job nor is impeachment an objective. That is not our role,” Zaid tweeted. “So we have offered to @DevinNunes.
“We will ensure timely answers,” he said.
Given just how secretively Schiff and others have acted in recent weeks, it would be unlikely that anyone in the West Wing is holding their breath in this regard.
