Editor’s Note: Though this happened last year, Lorri demonstrates what many people don’t realize and that is that bills are often put together and then passed in one vote. These are referred to as Omnibus bills and they are even worse than the bills that contain a lot of pork spending, which was why the people demanded that the executive branch have line item veto authority for. It appears we need authority to veto individual bills that are combined now. Since many people begin to start thinking politically everyday, I think it appropriate to have Lorri’s perspective on this issue as someone who came across this issue on her own.
Imagine my surprise while going through the Congressional website looking through bills passed by 112th Congress, and I came across this. I saw a link for a new revision for (S. 990) that was passed for “Small Business Act and The Small Business Investment Act” What got my attention was it was listed under “Homeland Security”. My curiosity spiked wondering why anything to do with small business would be implemented by Homeland Security.
I clicked on the link for this bill, opened the official PDF from the GPO website, and WOW. I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I researched all the information I could find about the so called Small Business Act and the Small Business Investment Act that happened this year on Youtube and different places on the internet. To no surprise, the officials (politicians) only read to the American Public the first part of this bill.
The further I dug, the angrier I became as I realized that we have all been hoodwinked. A bill passed right under our noses that allows the government to continue to spy on the American people without them even realizing it. Then I began to wonder even further, why would they put the USA PATRIOT Act under small business? Could it be, because we are all for the small business succeeding? That Americans would not even worry about looking into such a bill that would help small business to prosper? Could that be why Obama continues to push so much for Small Business (possibly his own personal agenda for more money to go toward spying on us)? For more funding to go to the INTELLIGENCE REFORM AND TERRORISM PREVENTION ACT of 2004 and the USA PATRIOT IMPROVEMENT AND REAUTHORIZATION ACT of 2005? I do not have all the answers. But these are questions that deserve to be answered.

This Act may be cited as the “PATRIOT Sunsets Extension Act of 2011”. SECTION 2. SUNSET EXTENSIONS. (a) USA PATRIOT Improvement And Reauthorization Act of 2005.-Section 102(b)(1) of the USA PATRIOT Improvement and Reauthorization Act of 2005 (Public Law 109-177; 50 U.S.C. 1805 note, 50 U.S.C. 1861 note, and 50 U.S.C. 1862 note) is amended by striking “May 27, 2011” and inserting “June 1, 2015” (b) INTELLIGENCE REFORM And TERRORISM PREVENTION ACT of 2004.- Section 6001(b)(1) of the Intelligence Reform and Terror 50ism Prevention Act of 2004 (Public Law 108-458; 50 U.S.C. 1801 note) is amended by striking “May 27, 2011” and inserting “June 1, 2015” Speaker of the House of Representatives

Are the politicians in government passing bills and making laws that we are not aware of right under our noses? I will let you be the judge.
