Welfare: It's Not Just For Food Anymore

As if there wasn’t enough problems in our economy and nation, we are now learning that welfare recipients are getting debit cards which they are using to then obtain cash from ATMs.

Often times these ATMs are located in strip clubs, casinos, bingo halls and amusement parks. Isn’t it nice to know we have a safety net for people such as this?

More than $1 million goes to ATM owners and banks each year in transaction fees.

In a 6 month period in 2011 one local news outlet performed an investigation and noted that $8.1 million had been withdrawn in ATM money. Thought liquor stores are banned from these types of transactions the report said that $40,000 was withdrawn from ATMs in area liquor stores.

It appears everyone is a winner with welfare debit cards, the banks, strip clubs, liquor stores and the recipients…..all that is except the taxpayer who is working their fingers to the bone to provide for their families only to have the government take their money virtually by force, using the law to make it legal and give it to someone else to waste.

Furthermore, in another article, the L.A. Times reported how welfare recipients used their cards to obtain weapons at gun shops, tattoo parlors and poker rooms. In fact, as much as $12 million had been accessed in Las Vegas. Obviously California has issues.

Governor Schwarzenegger finally shut all that down. I can honestly say “bout time there Terminator!” How the people of California survive is beyond me with such terrible governing as has gone on in the past 2 decades.

Other states have allowed similar abuses of the welfare system including Washington State, where Seattle had problems with ATM access for welfare debit card at strip clubs there. Atlantic City also was found to have major problems like this.

Currently a bill has been passed in Congress that is supposed to ban these types of transactions, but is waiting on the President’s signature. The problem is legislation will not keep these leeches from accessing ATMs a block away and then taking the money and using at the establishment they are banned to use it at. Drug testing won’t stop them. The only thing that will stop this is to simply remove its access.

We wonder why they are bankrupt. Wait, no we don’t. The people that know this is all a scam in the first place know exactly why California, as well as, other states are either bankrupt or going bankrupt. We know why the Federal government is bankrupt. It’s because they do not do the things they are supposed to do and then they get involved in the very things they have no business in.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, charity is not the role of government. That is the role of the people. People can be charitable because people actually make their money, earn their living, own their stuff and can do with it whatever they please.

Government technically owns nothing! Even what they may claim is theirs is really the people’s, because taxpayers paid for any and everything the government uses.

I realize that we probably can’t take the proverbial “welfare babies from the breast” in one swift stroke without some serious civil unrest, but we sure need to move in that direction fast.

In this election year remember that. Understand that our economy is tanking for a myriad of reasons and government handouts and bailouts are a major reason we are in the shape we are in.
