With the issue of homosexuality and homosexual “marriage” on the rise and more than likely they will be an important issue in this campaign, it should be apparent to anyone looking at the situation that the left is hopeless on their social agenda. By hopeless I’m not saying that they don’t get some of their agenda through. I’m saying their long-term agenda is toast if people, especially Bible believing Christians simply woke up and took the command of the Bible seriously when it comes to children.
Let me show you what I mean. In an article from 2004, Gary DeMar of American Vision wrote on this very subject. He began by recalling,
Michelle Cottle, writing in the December 6th issue of Time, concludes that while the battle over morals is over, the war continues to rage. She sees the pro-homosexual forces winning in the end. She bases this on the way the American public is more accepting today of “lifestyle issues” like homosexuality. Will & Grace, a TV show with a flaming homosexual theme, appears each week with little fanfare. This would have been impossible 20 years ago. Then there’s the popular Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, the title of which says it all.
So what about these TV shows plus Sex in the City, the bed-hopping Friends, and Desperate Housewives? How do we count for their popularity? Does she have a point? Given the fact that 55 million Americans voted for John Kerry, less than a third of this number watched the top-rated show last week, Desperate Housewives, which got an inordinate amount of free publicity because of one raunchy ad that the networks played repeatedly. People were curious. The other 19 of 20 shows were tame by comparison. Law and Order showed up twice. The three major networks are losing audience share. A better question might be: Who’s not watching these shows or not watching anything? There will always be a segment of society that will watch the seamy side of life.

Cottle concludes that “while the Bush White House may be on the side of social conservatives, time is not.” She bases this on demographics: younger Americans are generally more accepting of homosexuality than the population in general. Of course, younger Americans are more accepting of drugs, binge drinking, speeding, promiscuous sex, and loud incoherent music. Young people can afford to be accepting when they don’t have children to feed and a mortgage to pay. Generally, people get more conservative as they get older because their responsibilities increase.
And then, as DeMar went on to point out, “there is the baby factor.”
The reason liberals will inevitably lose is because they are on the side that wants the right to murder babies before they are even born. The homosexuals have chosen a side in which it is impossible for them to procreate. They cannot have children. This is why for many they petition to not only “marry”, which would legitimize them as a family, but also adopt children, something liberals support. In other words, the liberals have built into their worldview self-limitization.
If Christians simply took the command of God serious, in just a couple of generations there would be a mass expansion of Christianity and the gospel of Jesus Christ. The demographics of our society would undergo a significant shift.
Some will inevitably declare that they can’t afford a lot of children and yet go into debt over all kinds of “things.”
As Doug Phillips has said, “The Bible calls debt a curse and children a blessing; but in our culture, we apply for a curse and reject blessings. Something is wrong with this picture.”
The Bible says,
“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Notice that this is one of the reasons for the distinction of the sexes. It is so that they may come together as man and wife, to be fruitful, to fill the earth, subdue it and take dominion. This is in direct contrast to men with men and women with women.
Christianity is losing ground in America because we have failed to take this seriously. In the practice of our lives we have been content to keep our “religion at the church house” rather than live it daily, being obedient to the commands of God.
Israel went down into the land of Goshen. The Bible says that they began to multiply and increase in number. This struck fear into the heart of the Pharaoh and so he desired to kill the male babies and enslave the people. He saw their numbers as a threat.
Remember that children are,
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one’s youth. How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them; They will not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
Christians, more than anyone should see a tremendous opportunity here. Believe God and obey Him, have lots of children, encourage big families, encourage financial discipline to care for them, encourage good education in the home from the people that love children the most: their parents. Above that, encourage others to do the same. If this were to take root and those who read it were to take it seriously and then pass it on to their friends, we would see a tremendous change in our lifetimes and our children would witness a cultural revolution in theirs.
