Yes, the U.S. Supreme Court just simply refused to hear the case of “Everyone in the State of Wisconsin v racist Scott Walker and his republican legislative shills.” At least, I think that was the official filing name of the case brought for consideration.
The Guardian writes that “Civil liberties campaigners filed an emergency motion on Monday to stop Wisconsin’s ‘disenfranchising’ new voter identification requirements from going into effect, setting up an instant showdown after the US Supreme Court turned away an appeal to throw out Wisconsin’s controversial law that forces people already registered to vote to show photo ID.”
They continue: “If emergency filing by the American Civil Liberties Union fails and Wisconsin fully activates its voter ID laws, the High Court non-decision could affect an estimated 300,000 voters in that state – with sweeping voting rights implications nationwide.”
Wow – the left is indeed in a panic over this latest slap down. They should be in a panic, for this will make it that much more difficult for Democrats to lie and cheat their way into office. And don’t you just love the lefts use of phony statistics like “could affect an estimated 300,000 voters.” Not that it will affect anyone who cares to make the slightest effort to obtain a photo ID – just that it will make it more difficult for illegals, multiple voters, and the deceased who wish to cast a ballot from the great beyond. That and I think I read that the manufacturing of photo IDs causing global warming.

USA Today writes that “The decision is a setback for civil rights groups that contend the law could disenfranchise hundreds of thousands of residents [not citizens – just residents] who lack proper ID – particularly racial minorities, seniors, students and people with disabilities.” And here I thought that with every emergency, it was supposed to be “women and children hardest hit.” Evidently, women have made great strides in obtaining photo ID in Wisconsin and that’s great news! Go Women!
So why all this disenfranchisement in Wisconsin? With all this fuss, it must be darn difficult to obtain a photo ID just to vote. Let’s look into that, shall we.
Part of the argument against photo ID has always been the cost of the ID. Some claim that the poor simply cannot afford such a luxury, yet on the state of Wisconsin’s website, there is a link on “How to Get a Free State ID Card for Voting.” Okay, that takes care of that.
Here’s what one has to go through to obtain a free voter photo ID in the state of Wisconsin. From the website: Applying for an original (first time) ID card. When applying for an original ID card, you must visit a DMV service center, complete form MV3004. This isn’t quite right, because they also provide a PDF form that you may print out, fill out and bring to the DMV, saving time that is apparently so precious to the disenfranchised.
As an aside – I’ve never met a disenfranchised resident. I’d like to meet one just to say I did. Maybe I’ll put it on my bucket list. Drive an F-1 car, surf the pipeline, dispatch a terrorist, meet a disenfranchised resident.
Anyway, this is where it gets a little tricky for those trying to cheat. One must provide proof of name and date of birth, for example, a certified US birth certificate, valid passport or certificate of naturalization. It’s quite sad that the jackboots at the DMV won’t simply take one’s word for it. One must also provide proof of identity, proof of Wisconsin residence, and proof of US citizenship.
And to add to the above indignities, the form MV3004 was in English. I’m sure there must be a Spanish version, although I couldn’t find one. Typical Republican-controlled state.
So it certainly does appear that if one wishes to vote in any of the upcoming elections, one must actually put forth a little effort to register and obtain a photo ID, free as they may be.
Of course, there is another choice. Just don’t vote. If one is unwilling to make even the slightest effort, one is probably not informed enough to be voting anyway. As it is, there are already too many registered and photo ID’d morons canceling out our informed ballots.
