Members of the New York Liberty and Seattle Storm walked off the court during the national anthem ahead of the WNBA’s season opener as a sign of protest. They also held a 26-second moment of silence for Breonna Taylor, who was shot and killed by police in her home.

The NY Liberty and the Seattle Storm of the failed WNBA go to the locker rooms as the Anthem is played. This is disgusting. There is going to be a huge backlash against this shit. pic.twitter.com/p2FDwYbBcc

Athletes from both teams walked back to their respective locker rooms during the national anthem and then held a brief moment of silence for Taylor, a 26-year-old Black woman who was fatally shot in March when Louisville police were conducting a no-knock warrant at her home.

Breonna Taylor was killed when her boyfriend fired on police and they returned fire. Completely lawful, the officers did nothing wrong.

Twitter reacts:

Byeeeee sports. Nobody cares about your tantrum. You won’t do this with actual fans in attendance cause they would boo you for sure. ??

Don’t worry, watching pro women’s basketball is a total bore and expect no commercial endorsements in short time

The WNBA makes the Dixie Chicks look like Republicans

It’s pure show, doing it because everyone else is doing it…gotta make the news, gotta be on social media… they’re just making a huge difference in the world, arent they?! I’d bet very FEW, if any, of them do much at all to implement any change or volunteer or mentor, etc.

— HCL ??? (@HCL2891) July 26, 2020

Pretty sure the @WNBA snooze-fests are already seen by less people than @MSNBC, so how much backlash can there be??

— ❌Larry Naselli❌ (@LarryNaselli) July 26, 2020

Disgusting. If they keep this up they are going to lose the two people that watch WNBA

— PBierly (@pambierly) July 26, 2020

There is a WNBA? On TV? This display of stupidity is the only impression anyone has of them because of the press covering the theatrics.

— Niagara Lee (@NiagaraLee1) July 26, 2020

There no fans left to boycott the WNBA though are there?
