There is once again much attention paid to “assault weapons” because of the recent shooting in Orlando. And, as I have said on many occasions, the reason for this is the presupposition of the liberal. If all people are basically good, why are there still so many shootings? The answer is access to firearms.
In an effort to understand the motivation behind owning such weapons a reporter went to a gun range. He wanted to fire an AR-15 in an effort to relate to the appeal. Gersh Kuntzman drove to Philadelphia for this experience.
The New York Daily News reports:
One day after 49 people were killed in the Orlando shooting, I traveled to Philadelphia to better understand the firepower of military-style weapons and, hopefully, explain their appeal to gun lovers.
Kuntzman was surprised by his experience.
Not in my hands. I’ve shot pistols before, but never something like an AR-15. Squeeze lightly on the trigger and the resulting explosion of firepower is humbling and deafening (even with ear protection).
At this point, we should recognize that we have left the realm of reporting and have enter the land of exaggeration. If you have fired the AR, one of the characteristics is that it is loud; but from my own experience, it is loud for the bystander more than for the shooter. Proper ear protection is usually adequate to muffle the sound. But then we move right into fantasy land from there.
The recoil bruised my shoulder, which can happen if you don’t know what you’re doing. The brass shell casings disoriented me as they flew past my face. The smell of sulfur and destruction made me sick. The explosions — loud like a bomb — gave me a temporary form of PTSD. For at least an hour after firing the gun just a few times, I was anxious and irritable.
This man claims his state of mind is the same as someone who has faced combat or trauma from rape or attempted murder. From firing a weapon a couple of times? This is the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time. But it points to the way the liberal media works.
Kuntzman has since corrected his statement, but his intent is clear. He wished to paint the weapon in as bad a light as possible.
